It has nothing to do with him. You lied to yourself, ignored the red flags and wanted to believe in the illusion. He just preyed on your vulnerability because you had not yet learned how to love yourself. That's what a narcissists job is. He'll then run into a Karmic and get his lesson. Heal yourself, alone... He'll come back to apologize. Don't turn into him.

Its been over a year and i still cry. I loved him so deeply and at the end of the day I meant nothing.

Sad but very true. I kept going back because I needed answers. Answers he was never gonna give me. I wanted to hear the clear uncluttered truth but he couldn’t be truthful. I finally realized that I would never get what I so desperately needed from him. Validation. So as hard as it was to walk away- I did.
