The Royal Australian Navy's ambitious project to develop three extra-large autonomous undersea vehicles (XL-AUV) within three years has resulted in a breakthrough in maritime defence technology.

The Ghost Shark program, part of a $140m co-development contract, has exceeded expectations by being delivered ahead of schedule and within budget.

By harnessing innovative technologies such as 3D printing, the project was able to speed up the usual defence procurement timelines.

Great work by everyone, but we need to stop allowing any information about prototypes to become public for awhile.

The usual cheap price, quality work or reduced time dilemma: you can only get 2, not all 3. :)

As long as it doesn't contain any Chinese electronics or WiFi it might be ok.

Colombia has years of experience building unmanned subs. Team up with a cartel.

Okay? What do they plan on using it for? Surveillance is the only thing I can see them using it for. Firing weapons, doesn’t look like it. Suicide sub, not likely considering it probably cost a lot of money per sub. Carrying individuals, it’s unmanned.

Palmer Luckey and Anduril in U.S, providing answers again it seems? Roadrunners to Ukraine ? U.K industry sold out, to conventional long term over budget profiteers . Too many in financial banking and not enough engineers in the U.k to make this type of industry . The U.K is rotten to the core with Wealth, but no future in sustained industrial needs, without buying from abroad, and isolating the prospects of those without higher education in financial services, for the cities money laundering and tax evasion. When Bankers and Lawyers become the only people, the political power cares about, no need to wanting defence priorities, since they will be the first rats off the ship, zero loyalty and huge bank accounts with go anywhere access.
