Fantastic solo! I know Deen and I've seen him with Journey multiple times (another incredible drummer) but never had the pleasure of watching Steve Smith live (and I got to watch him kill it live here in West Palm). I was wondering how well Steve would shift from jazz mode back to Arena rock and he did an over-the-top solo here at West Palm Beach. Amazing! On of the best drum solos I've heard...

Awe-inspiring and nostalgic at the same time! One of my all time favorite drummers. It's like the old days, on "Captured", that shuffle-feel solo during "La Do Da", but now, all these years hence, you see how Steve's playing method has really changed. He practiced a great deal of economy of motion and precision, and it shows: a lot less effort to create the same machine gun thunder. Plus a bunch of new licks and phrases, much of which is recognizable from his videos and posts of late. Steve is a true master of the craft, and one who still continues to get better due to the work he puts in. Very inspiring!

Incredibly rhythmic, creative, and clean. And he can still ROCK Hard!. I've copied some of his triplet parts in a band I was in - and I'm not embarrassed to say. Great stuff!
