Experts: Sharks don't like to eat humans...when they attack it's because they mistake you for a seal.

Sheriff Brody: Tell it to
Vladimir Popov, Cameron Robbins, Shirley Ann Durden, Simon Nellist, Lloyd Skinner, Nick Peterson, Terry Cartwright,
Henri Murray, Sam Kellett, Tyna Webb, Robert Pamperin, The Indianapolis Crew and many more

0% of shark attacks happen if you stay on shore.

As a South Australian that grew up spending a lot of time fishing and deep ocean swimming, i can tell you any reports of shark sightings and attacks are grossly under-reported. I suspect the Australian tourism board down plays these stats. Also Tathra is in New South Wales not South Australia.

I've surfed since I was a teenager, although I've since given it up because of the increased great white presence in South Oz. My point: I've seen hundreds, literally, of bronze whalers when surfing. Big 10 footers. They just don't do this to humans. They're a sketchy shark, easily frightened by humans. They eat fish. THIS attack was obviously a great white. U don't need to be a scientist. Any surfer or fisherman could shed light on this.

A lot of people are brave enough to swim in the ocean, I love the ocean as much as anyone else, but if there’s a chance of a monster eating me, I’m not gonna go in that area, but that’s me R.I.P 🙏🏻

Good story. One small correction: Rob spotted the shark when he and the other members of the group were swimming back from the wharf, not when he was back on the beach.

This happened up the road from my house, there’s heaps of deep water there and the jetty there is renowned for large shark fishing, which they had to ban- it was a Great White Shark

Important thing to point out. Before she disappeared, she had complained of feeling ill. Although it sounds like she is a very experienced swimmer its likely what she could have been ill might have been much more serious, perhaps even the start or foreshadowing of a stroke or similar. A horrible and tragic fate if true. Its likely that she might have suffered something and died on the way. A nearby shark likely would come to investigate. Just giving out a theory that I noticed nobody considered.

So sad. Can’t imagine how her husband felt losing his best friend of over 40 years. Such a tragedy

We are totally on the menu, we're just not a popular item. The sharks are at a five star buffet, and we're chicken nuggets. Even at a five star buffet, sometimes you just want a nugget. We're also easier to catch, so it's probably just convenience in some cases. Both of us have been here on this planet for a very long time, them much longer. They sure as hell know the difference between us and their regular dinner. To suggest differently is comical. They're the same as any predator, it's a calorie balance. Do I want it versus do I need it versus how much energy will be expended to get it. Simple.

The comparison of number of people at beaches to the number of attacks is irrelevant.

Most of people don't go swimming in the deep where sharks hunt. That's why most people are not attacked.
The shark "experts" are wrong in assuming sharks don't like human on the menu.

They are looking at a shark as if it is a vegetarian person from a 1st world country, who can choose to not eat meat because of where it comes from. Have you ever met a vegetarian from a 3rd world country? Probably not, because they out there trying to survive. This a top wild predator, and it will eat anything if it's hungry in order to survive.

The swimmers that do go into shark territory and are not attacked might just be lucky no hungry shark is around. If they are hungry and they are around you, you are gone.

People swimming in oceans with sharks in Australia are very foolish, enter the ocean you become part of the food chain, end result your body turns into a turd rolling on the ocean sea bed.

It doesn't make sense to me that this woman was feeling bad enough to turn back, yet her husband and friends left her on her own. They all swam that stretch regularly so it's not like they just HAD to continue. WTF? With friends/partners like these individuals, one certainly has no need for enemies! RIP to the victim.😢

I live in Florida and am very comfortable with the ocean, but Australian and South African waters are worlds apart from what we have here!
