I miss this Australia. I took it all for granted. I thought it would always stay the same 😢

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. The nostalgia is overwhelming.

Yep, will never see this again, the narratives running now will make sure of that!
R.I.P 1980s, missed, missed, missed!

Funny! I am a born and bred Canberran, but we moved to Melbourne in 1983-84 for dad’s work. The culture shock! An unworldly 14 yo boy, moving from (what was then, effectively) a small country town, to “the big city”. I mean, there were five TV channels. Five! We had two, then three, in Canberra. The ABC, Capital 7, and, eventually, SBS. I got to watch such things as “Hey! Hey!” On a regular basis, instead of only at Christmas, and Easter, when we went to Sydney to stay with Nanna, in Randwick. We actually had to decide what to watch in the evenings, instead of whatever 7 was showing.

I remember most of these ads. They take me back to a time when things were much simpler. No mobile phones. No consoles. Radio was king, and cassette tapes were becoming a thing.

I feel sorry for kids these days. They will never know growing up like my generation did… :(

Advertising nowadays is so loud and in your face I wish we could go back to the days of Australian made adds about Australian made products and services

The 80s were a magical time in Australia. I was a teenager, my family traveled to Bangkok, Kong and Singapore all throughout this decade. Money was easily made and most businesses were booming. The old man would have himself and his business partner go out on their 60 ft cruiser and every month they ordered 2 pallets of Heineken to be delivered to the McMahons point cellars to be collected by us boys when he needed a case or two. With a Mercedes 190 E Flared AMG and a Porsche 911 parked out the front. There was a car shop in North Sydney on the freeway ramp called the ToyShop with Lamborghini Countach and De Tomaso cars and an old Bentley. Simply put the 80s were like no other time in my life time and I am proud to say that I lived in that era

$599 in 1984 ≈ $2080 in 2023, but now the new movies from Hollywood are truly shit, which I wouldn't record, let alone rent or buy.

It almost breaks my heart to see that old 1984 melbourne (via channel 7) now in 2023+ and where the state has ended up now after so many decades.... I've been around too long.

As a teenager of the 80’s I remember these commercials with fondness.

It's sad to see how much Australia has lost since then.

"Holden Camira, Supercar", said nobody ever in the history of Holden Cars, Supercars, or the English language!

Thank you for preserving and publishing these. I have a really bad memory and it feels like so much of my life is lost to the mists of time, but every one of these gives me just a little bit back and helps me recall other contextual events. Thank you most sincerely! ❤
