Scion is a brand of vehicles produced by Toyota Motor Corporation for the North American market. Founded in 2002, Scion was introduced at the New York Auto Show to appeal to Generation Y consumers. The first Scion models, the xA hatchback and xB wagon, went on sale in California in 2003, followed by a sports coupe, the tC, and a nationwide U.S. launch in 2004.

A successor to the xA, the xD, premiered in 2008, and the Scion marque expanded to Canada in 2010. Scion currently has five models: the tC, xB, iQ, xD, and the FR-S. The Scion name, meaning the descendant of a family or heir, refers both to the brand's cars and their owners.

Considering Scion went under and they likely knew this was coming years ago, it was likely Toyota's decision to keep the car slow and naturally aspirated knowing that they'd eventually have to badge the car and be responsible for any reputation issues. As it stands now the FRS is cheap and reliable and that's modern Toyota's motto. I'd bet that the FRS stays the course and doesn't receive a turbo charged engine, it's more likely to get a V6 than a turbo.
