14c is what I would prefer to have between the 2.

14c28n and I’d be happy to pay $5 more.

14c28n without a doubt. Also I love QSPs slipjoints. They are the best value for sure.

I think DCA really liked the Viper fixed blade. Looks beautiful, useful, and tactical. Great mix

I'll take 14C28N over D2 all day, any day. 14C is stainless, has better toughness, takes a better edge & is easier to sharpen/maintain. Yes (depending on steel quality & heat treat) D2 may hold an edge for longer but this isn't always the case. In my experience any negligible better edge retention is negated by all other factors - esp. on folders. Sharp blades all.

14C over D2 for me for sure, especially at a 5 Dollar mark up.

14c28n is better than D2. Well worth $5 more.

14C28N for sure! Not sure who would be picking D2??? Especially for only a $5 difference.

SOG Terminus XR has flipper and crossbar lock. It's been out for a while.
Thin behind the edge and mirror polish I'd say 14c. Coated work horse it'll be D2

I like the little big slip joint. And the blue of his handle. ^^

First of all I wanna say that I've been a big fan of qsp for a long time. They've got some great stuff with a bit of a different flare than the other companies that make them stand out to me. Ok with that said, let's just go ahead with the 14c on that there penguin and call it a day. For real though my neighbors, whatever steel they decide to go with will be fine by me. I'll be happy with a crossbar penguin in my pocket either way. I have two penguins now, one with ti handle and 154cm, and one d2 base model with 3d print frag scales. Love them both so much and have been dreaming of a crossbar penguin for years. I'm stoked for qsp and can't wait to get it

David from QSP is such a gem. Best rep at the Oregon Knife Show. He knows his stuff and was so friendly.

Love the tortoise shell look but that slip joints my favorite out of the pile😅

14C28N no D2! D2 is really a poor choice. Tool steel without the toughness of tool steel... Better edge retention than 14c yes but really isn't worth it

The Emu is the one I’m most stoked on. Only other option I know that’s similar and available to get now is the SOG XR series, they have the flipper and thumb hole combo with the crossbar lock. But none with micarta scales or stone washed 14c, I believe most of the XR knives with flippers are d2 with a coating. And this would be a 1st to have that modified reverse tanto blade shape. Seems like it will serve many purposes with cutting tasks, the way the tip is you could get pokey if you really want to, and there’s a slight belly (a pudge if you will) on it for slicing, but it’s not such a belly that you have to do a 90 degree angle with your wrist to do utility cuts. Over all this one seems like it’ll be a great versatile knife. I love that the plunge grind is backed up so much and you’ll have some good sharpening life on it.

Yeah agree with the crowd here… 14c over D2.

Can we all just be done with d2 already… so many other great budget steels out there. Nitro v, 14c28n, I’d even take aus10a over d2!

What will be the blade length of the Viper?
