That cheese making segment is probably the most unholy secrion of 45 seconds on this channel. Full marks!

Very happy to see a video that isn't, like, 45 minutes long. Not that I dislike them, but I'm glad to see this size of review is always still on the table at SUSD.

I have to say, I don't want to feel like I'm making cheese. I had that once, and even with the antibiotics, it took weeks to clear up.

Perhaps it's the purple jumper or the finger waggling or the antagonism but Matt's giving off big Waluigi vibes this review.

My exact impression when I played it. Yes, it's a somewhat clever mechanism in terms of worker placement, but we could've been making engine parts in Detroit (funny that they mention Corrosion) instead of making cheese in France and it would've had the same feeling. There's nothing that involves the actual making of cheese in this game. It's a completely detached theme.

Are these getting sillier? Yes. They are. Very good.

Loved the Churchill impression. "We shall skim on the beaches, we shall slab on the curing grounds..."

I'm so glad I watched this review. Because... they answered the weird question I had. "Does this game about making cheese feel like making cheese?" I bought Photosynthesis because my partner loved trees. But it didn't feel like being a tree or a forest -- it felt like a crunchy euro-game version of chess. I know people who love cheese, and know enough about its production, that they would enjoy a game that feels like making cheese. What a weird and wonderful world we live in -- where board games have gone from simple roll and moves with almost no decision making, to a world where we can be disappointed with an otherwise brilliant game for not marrying theme and mechanics enough to make us feel like we're making cheese. There are some things I really do love about living in the future!

I look for solid mechanics and an aesthetically pleasing presentation in my games. I don't need the mechanics to be dictated by the theme. Fromage is great for my tastes. It's a really solid mechanical design and the presentation is gorgeous! I still appreciate the subjectivity presented in the review, it was informative. Cheers!

I would not be averse to a whole series of old documentaries with Tom's voice over.

The main criticism of the theme is very fair. You're not so much making cheese as managing cheese distribution across various sectors. The order cards are the only part that really put the cheese front and center. That said, it can still be a very fun game with a satisfying turn gimmick in the form of the lazy susan, and it has enough strategy and risk/reward calculation to give you something to bite into.

I'd love to see a game where you do actually MAKE cheese, like you build a cheese-making engine to take milk, flavorings and/or live cultures, move through the stages of cheese production, and decide which final product you're going to deliver. But this is a pretty good cheese-themed or cheese-adjacent game for now :)

Love the "Look around you" section of the video

Between this and Paris La Cite De La Lumiere I'm developing a conspiracy theory that Tom gets given games with French words because he's the only one that speaks it

Haha that air horn is giving Vic Berger.

Not surprised. People being wowed by production value over whether the game actually engages with its theme and metaphors seems to be a real issue in our hobby. Also 10/10 for Tom's goblin mode voice.
