Years ago I was working at a restaurant. Gave them 2 MONTHS notice since I was moving to another country. Final day comes. Coworkers are wishing me well. I go into the office to say good bye to the manager.

"Wait, you're leaving?"

Yeah. Today was my last day.

"But I already put you on next week's schedule."

Ok.... I won't be in the country so I won't be coming in.

My coworkers and i would figure out how to cover each other's shift because if we left it to our manager he would create the most inconvenient and convoluted rescheduling. We would get it squared away and inform him of who was covering what so he had no need to be involved. Great guy who always went to bat for us but his mind worked in some strange ways.

Yeah, I asked my 7-11 manager for a day off, in writing, a month in advance. When the schedule came up and I wasn't given the day I told him that I wasn't showing up so either he could change the schedule or find a replacement. Not only did he fix it, he never again tried something like that with me. Sometimes all you have to do is stick up for yourself.
