“The Middle Road” (2021)
"In his Philosophy of New Music (1949), Theodore Adorno restates Arnold Schoenberg’s aphorism “The middle road is the only one which does not lead to Rome” to defend the extremes in modern music. More than seventy years later, “the middle road” is -more or less- a personal selection of anything that interests the composers, including the extremes. More importantly, it is an attempt to re-establish a lost connection with an audience that is justifiably suspicious towards new music. This is the main idea behind the title of the piece, which aims to raise the question of the importance of a “middle road” in music and the arts, today."
