Let me start off by saying you did an amazing job on this video Darren…. This is a very “touchy” subject that I typically avoid like the plague 😂 I DESPISE the “cancel culture They usually make my blood boil 💯😡 While I understand the reasoning for the Stones removing the song from the setlist, I disagree with them….. I think it’s ridiculous! My opinion, which I usually don’t share 🤷🏼‍♀️ but, you asked 😂 Again, fantastic job 🤘🏻

It's ironic that they drop this song from the No Filter tour!

Thanks for this very informative video! I didn’t like the Stones and only knew the chorus of this song from when I couldn’t avoid hearing it on the radio; I never knew the verses. I’m glad I watched your video and was educated about the words & deeper implications of the song. 👍

matters like these always remind me of a time in high school when the new trend in our class was to shout "jews jews!!"to the rythm of music. I am Dutch. You must know that that term comes from national soccer and Amsterdam players tend to call themselves "jews" as a term of endearment. Our school was located across a synagogue and many of us (including me) had Jewish ancestry.
Still, it got prohibited by the school board. Cancel culture is not new.

If they cancel sympathy for the devil I'm cracking skulls!

This rocker extraordinaire shot to number one on the US Billboard charts in the spring of 1971. Jaggers vocals, Richards lead in and Bobby Keyes sax make this their best song IMO.

I always go back to the tried and true phrase "if you don't remember the past, you'll fail in the future". Sadly I don't think the people behind cancel culture get this. As far as this song, won't make me stop listening to it, it's a classic and one of the Stones best.

I don't think they should've removed it from their set. It's art and shouldn't be held to such standards. Plus if we forget the past, we're bound to repeat it in the future.

I'm 70 & I've been listening to this song for many years & only recently really understood the lyrics. Obviously, they're racist & somehow I missed that throughout the years. It's still a great rock & roll song, but Good God! Let's call it what it is.

I really don't care about the lyrics. I only searched for it barely recently and I understood the story. But in this world one has to be really broad-minded and not always looking for faults. Just listen to the music.

I'm 53 years old, been listening to this song all my life, but I had no idea what the lyrics were, and only found out the other day that they were controversial, and I see others with similar comments. Now admittedly, the guitar is what gets my attention when i listen to any song, and lyrics are of least interest. However, after 40 years, I generally know the lyrical content of every song of this caliber, including other Stones songs, so I was surprised that I did not know about this. Maybe it's the irresistible groove of that iconic opening riff. After that, and what little you can make out of the words as they are sung, it would be easy to dismiss them as standard sex/drugs/rock and roll stuff ...like another great groover, coincidently on the same topic...one lump or two? Deep thoughtful serious subject matter isn't typically what you get with an upbeat feel good groove like that. Jaggar must have skipped that day in super rock god song writing school.

Mick Jagger was dating a black girl at the time he wrote this song. There is a video from 1969 showing him playing a bit of the song to Ike and Tina turner. I also thought he should have changed the lyrics to make it a love song about a sexy black woman. The song rocks!

A wonderful video Darren. Yea, so let’s wait like over 45 years to make a big ordeal about this song!!! Very sad!! I know the song has multiple meanings, I wish the Stones would’ve buckled to the pressure!!!

Is it a good things that you could not sing it today? What does it say of the present time? Now even the Stones are politically correct!

As a Black man, I say, don't stop playing it. Censorship is not good for anyone, good or bad. Freedom of speech can enlighten and educate.

I always saw it as a critique of racism .. A slaver who despite the violence and racism of the society he's been born into and participates desires and loves a black woman .. that love desire wins.
