I love incorporating scratchy texture or bleeding my colors together in my paintings! But I understand if that’s not the intended look that it would be frustrating

Having "too much" water can look amazing but it will only look good if 1. The paper can take it and dries evenly (i.e. 300gsm 100% cotton paper with decently soft sizing will do that pretty well, hard sizing or wood pulp paper will have a harder time) 2. Your paints are good quality (lots of filler makes it look weird and patchy and dry uneven and cause cauliflowering) and 3. The pigment itself looks good the way it settles. A big puddle means the pigment moves a lot, all pigments have different sizes and weights and concentrations. Some granulating pigments on rough paper will look their absolute best if you "puddle it" and let it dry. Some smooth heavy pigments will settle all in one place or around the rim or start drying faster in some areas and shift and create lines. Always test your pigments before trying to use it super wet so you know how it behaves.

Am I the only one who thought the bleeding looked good? 😅 The green and brown blended together so well

If there’s too much in the first leaf then rather than go back to the palette for more colour, I use my thirsty brush to lift some of the excess from there

I know waiting for the paint to dry is essential but ugh 😫

When I do watercolor i do everything wrong lol
I actually like to (if I’m doing one color in a wash) put water first, then the color, then take some paper and blot the area. When i’m doing a darker to lighter thing I usually paint like normal the dark area then go in with water to the areas I want to be lighter, then blend and maybe blot

the problem with exams is that they dont even allow time for us painters to let the colours dry, like for example my school here in malaysia gave us ONE SINGULAR HOUR to complete a freaking watercolor painting INCLUDING THE BACKGROUND, yea i can just imagine my grade dropping but hey, i failed both my maths and islamics class (not worried abt maths but worried abt islamics 😭😭😭😭)

I am so guilty of the last one. I'm impatient and keep working over the same area and mess it up
