Good to see a balanced explanation of the benefits and risks associated with VR.

I agree. I mostly immune to every side effects of VR except 2, first is headache if I use it more than an hour. Second is that real world feels fake or virtual, like if I am watching TV, it feels like I can use my controller to readjust it's size and bring it closer. it becomes difficult to focus on depth in real life. it is short but very disorienting.

This was really interesting.
I'm kinda excited for the future of VR/AR technology, but I do have a lot of worry with things like users being tracked, or pushed content etc. The part about the psychosis is also very interesting, I wonder if anyone has done a study with people who use apple vision pro for extended periods of time and someone who doesnt but uses computers to play video games most of the time. I wonder if they experience something similar. It would be a good study to conduct, because the lines between reality and digital is increasingly blurred like you said and I have found myself favouring the digital because I have basically spent most of my life either playing video games (since I was a toddler) or using a computer (since I was 10)...im 33 now.

Another huge worry is vision health, I wonder if over time they're just going to put in technologies that can help with vision issues and thus leading to a situation where people have to wear them to see properly.

You just got a new subscriber! Amazing presentation quality. I'm glad someone is finaly talking about both sides of VR

This blew me away, so well cited and researched. I never knew there was so much research already conducted on Virtual Reality.

I’m most worried about what you mention at the end. Psychosis breaks from reality and blurring the lines between real and digital. Terrifying stuff.

Recommending this video to family and friends. Keep it up!

We all already have a built-in VR system in our brains. It's called "dreams". Nature made sure we FORGET what we experience during dreams when waking up, just so that our dream experiences won't interfere with our ability to navigate the real world. But we can train ourselves to remember dreams, and to be fully aware while dreaming (so-called "lucid dreaming"). When we do, it suddenly becomes hard to keep reality and dreams apart, because the dreams feel fully real (much more so than any VR tech can accomplish!), with all senses operating at full capacity. And our memories of the dreams get messed up with our real life memories. That's why it's important to not lucid dream about real people in your life. Because it's kind of awkward to remind your brother of things he said that he never actually said, or refer back to your awesome trip to Madagascar together that you never actually made. And apart from getting messed up memories, you also risk forgetting if you're in a dream or in the real world, just because the two experiences are indistinguishable. One guy told about how he once grabbed a girl in the middle of the street and kissed her, which resulted in him getting kicked on the shin. Ooops, he thought he was in a dream (where you can do whatever you wish), turned out he was in waking life.
I think we're going to see VR users experience many of the same problems careless lucid dreamers encounter. Our brains only knows "reality", the very idea of "not reality" is foreign to it, so it can't keep unreal experiences separate.

Great video. What was the drift phonk song during your transition to the dopamine topic @ 4:35 ? It was a catchy tune.

Really Loved the style for this one. Instant Sub.

A small feedback from my experience watching this: The grain/noise animation on the paper effect can be slowed down and could be made more subtle(lowering their opacity), They becomes a bit distracting after a while.

Hope to see more of such essays in the future, Congrats and Good Luck.

A lot of the words used in this video seemed off. They make me think of a ChatGPT generated text.

I think it will make our attention and focusing worse like what cell phones and social media did.
