The Nunc Dimittis

The main melody is taken from the version of the Nunc Dimittus from the Lutheran Hymnal (1941), from the Order of the Holy Communion beginning on page 15. Here I am playing it with solo electric guitar. After I play through the melody, the rest of the piece is improvised. The pictures are from Lutheran churches and colleges from around the world, but mostly from Portland, Oregon.

Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant
Depart in peace
According to Thy word,
For mine eyes have seen Thy Salvation:
Which Thou hast prepared before
The face of all people,
A light to lighten the Gentiles
And the Glory of Thy people Israel.

Glory be to the Father
And to the Son
And to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning,
Is now, and ever shall be,
World without end.
Amen.
