His mother is a TV executive and his father is a composer. Yes, I also spent my early childhood in a small house, but then my parents purchased a home worth close to two million today. My parents bought me a $20K car in the 90s when I turned 16, and a small condo when I graduated college. Yet believe me, my parents were not nearly as wealthy as Ben's parents were and are. To say that our upper middle class parents didn't make a significant contribution to our success in life is an extremely narcissistic statement.

I'm not as wealthy as Ben, but I do have a net worth of a little over $20 million in my early 40s. I would surely not be worth this much if my parents weren't worth a couple of million when I graduated high school. Not to mention all the connections I made through them, and the many people I met by living in great neighborhoods and going to great schools. I started the company I currently own with a friend from high school who had a very wealthy father. His father gave us the seed money to start the business, about $2 million. My parents also threw in a few hundred thousand. No way we could've done what we did without their help, and the help of endless other connections we had.

So, 20 seconds of googling reveal that his father was a writer and composer of TV music and his mother a hollywood TV executive. If we include those kinds of careers into "not rich" then that category looses all meaning.

Shapiro was born on January 15, 1984 in Los Angeles, California, to a Conservative Jewish family. He is Ashkenazi Jewish, of Russian-Jewish and Lithuanian-Jewish ancestry. When he was 9 years old, his family transitioned to Orthodox Judaism. He started playing violin at a young age[6] and performed at the Israel Bonds Banquet in 1996 at 12 years of age.
