1939 Ford De luxe Coupe Model 91A

Interestingly a “Fun Fact”, beginning in 1938 Ford had 5 lines, Ford,
De Luxe Ford, Mercury, Lincoln-Zephyr and Lincoln.

The car shown fits into the De Luxe Ford line-up. The idea behind the De Luxe Ford line was that this years De Luxe would become the standard for the next model year.

It was in 39’ that “Hydraulic Drum Brakes” were standard on all models. Interestingly Ford was behind other manufacturers offering this brake system. So Ford decided not to make a big deal about when showing new car features.

Base engine for the 39’ Ford was the 136 Cu. In. V-8 60 as it was known. For the De Luxe models, the 221 Cu. In. 85 HP Flathead V-8 was installed.

Grilles and fenders were different between standard and De Luxe models making the two distinguishable from the other.

This model was my dad’s first car. I don’t remember any modifications other than the 2 fox tails he had flowing from the “Dual Antenna’s”.

Love the lines of these cars. The "banjo-style" steering wheel is always a highlight.
