I'm super lucky to be in the totality zone. I plan on practicing this weekend but I should get a few good shots. Thanks for the tips!

Oh getting the solar eclipse photographs was one of the highlights of my life. I'm rewatching this in preparation for the annular eclipse that's going to happen in October in 2023 and I'm sure all we watch it in 2024 for the Big show down in Texas. got hoping I live that long I'll probably watch a hologram of it in

I don't understand why there would be a problem with using an optical viewfinder if you have a solar filter on your lens. Trying to focus using the screen in the sun would be very hard in the sun and you lose your diopter correction.

Thinking about how many photos ive taken of the sun thru trees, in background shots, sunsets and sunrises. But i'm being told I will destroy my camera without a special solar filter now.

Hi.. thanks for the info. I'm so very confused about the use of ND filters. I read it's fine as long as it's 14 stop or above and others say not to use them at all. I've looked high and low for the solar filters and everyone is sold out. My question is, can I stack NDs to equal 14-16 stop? Does it work that way? We are in the path of totality and I really want to photograph each phase, but don't want to ruin my Nikon D90. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks! Peace ~Lisa

I'm a little confused when you talk about filters, and the confusion started towards the end of your video. You seemed to clearly say initially that a certified safe filter was needed to protect your camera and more importantly your eyes when looking through your eyepiece on your DSLR; but then later you seem to say you should use your live view LCD. Did I misunderstand you, or do you need to clarify something?

I heard its bad to use a smartphone or even point and shoot. My point and shoot is good for the low light so I  am thinking I can take a few pictures with my point and shoot. I did a practice minutes ago and I couldn't see my camera but I pointed my camera towards the sun and I still got a picture even though I couldn't see anything. I could see the small yellow sun through my special glasses which was neat but I didn't look long only a glance I didn't trust it. But for the regular eclips that will be 89 percent dark in Chicago I will look longer since I will have the special glasses. I also thought about using my old iphone5 and not use my iphone6s so keep it safe. Maybe I will do a video with my old phone for 10 seconds.

I plan to take apart a pair of my eclipse glasses and tape them onto the end of my binoculars.

I didn't know until a few days ago I would need a filter. If I use my point and shoot and take a few pictures real quickly is that fine?

I got a sun protector for my DSLR and when ever I take a picture or look through it with my bare eye it blocks out all visual except for the sun, how can I get it to show a background?

I ordered 3 of the Daystar filters you mentioned/linked. I ordered them from B&H but a friend of mine ordered them from Amazon. She told me today that she received an e-mail from Amazon saying this filter is NOT ISO certified and not recommended for the eclipse. They are issuing her a refund and told her to just keep the product. I haven't received any message from B&H about this product. Have you heard anything about this claim from Amazon?

Also, now I'm not even sure if they will fit my lenses. I have a lens with a 87mm diameter and a 97mm diameter. After my friend told me about Amazon I started looking for reported issues with these filters. Several people said that the filter doesn't actually fit the diameters at the higher end of the range. Can you please share any insight you may have on this? Thank you.
