I think all of us know people who have been negatively influenced by our lack of privacy. In fact, we’ve all been negatively influenced already, we just don’t know it. The data that is collected is used to reinforce our bubbles, but the whole point of a bubble is that you are unaware that you’re in one. The extremism we see on both sides are largely caused by algorithms only showing us content that is designed to trigger us (see CGP Grey – This video will make you angry). This is used by groups such as Cambride Analytica to target people with misinformation that aligns so perfectly with your worldview that it is nearly impossible to separate fact from fiction.
