... to help remove confusion... the line is "Scale armor BELIES virgin innocence"...

I think watching classical singers and vocal coaches react to this song is gonna be a new comfort thing for me. the surprise moment is always brilliant.

Heck out “The Charismatic Voice”, Elizabeth Zharoff and her interviews with Will Ramos. They actually put a camera in his throat and recorded his vocal folds while he was singing like this!

This song goes from 7/8 to 6/8 regularly. It gives it its edge even in the smooth sections. Vlad, the drummer, is a classically-trained pianist.

I would suggest watching the One Take Live performance of "Judgement and Punishment", so you can see her body and facial adjustments as she sings very clearly as it stays focused on her.

Scale armor is the projected hard exterior, which belies (or disguises) the interior virginal innocence. This represents the dichotomy of the two fish.
Tatiana's birthday is March 15; making her a Pisces - like myself

So I am a pisces. I actually share a birthday with Tatiana. Keep in mind that I am a 50 year old life long metalhead, I'm 6'1" #230 heavily tattooed, bald head, long beard biker dude.Ive played metal guitar for 36 years and metal drums for about 20 years. You get the picture... This song literally puts tears in my eyes almost every time I hear it. And I've heard it a lot. Jinjer has become a favorite band of mine. I've seen them live 2 times now. Maybe you have to be a pisces to fully appreciate the lyrics maybe not but they make me feel emotion like nothing ever has. What comes out of her mouth are not just lyrics but deep completely self aware emotions put into words. I can tell you I understand every single word on a very personal level. It's actually a very sad song. Besides all that I must mention that every single one of them are masters of their craft. They may never get the recognition they deserve because of the genre but these are top notch musicians.

This studio session is basically a studio recording for the "at the time" new drummer, Vlad, so the vocals are the album version with layers, etc. Tatiana is a Pisces, and the soft/harsh vocals are reflecting the duality of the two sides of her personality, along with the fish references and her plugs in her earlobes have fish on them.
The most common follow ups to Pisces are one of a couple live concert performances, like "Perrenial" at Wacken 2019, or "Who is gonna be the one" which I believe was at an Atlas Festival. Others go directly to her One Take Vocal performance of "Judgement & Punishment", which is just the camera on her singing in a booth at her home the entire time, so you can see what she's doing as she sings.

Love the FACT that you're DEFINITELY NOT READY for the change in her vocal dynamics when she changes... (NOBODY is ready straight off the bat, so to speak). PRICELESS!!!!

Welcome to Jinjer. The band is amazing and Tati is a vocal goddess. The song is about the duality of the Pisces personality. (Refer to the yin-yang symbol for pisces). The growling is produced through the use of her false vocal folds. You would really enjoy "Judgement and Punishment" (One take vocal performance); it would allow you to view her singing techniques upclose. Very good analysis and reaction. (Subbed)

OMG it's not like we weren't telling you about Jinjer - Pisces over 2 years now Jessica

Two of the band members are Pisces. The singer, Tatiana and the Bassist, Eugene. Both of them contributed lyrically to this song but Tati is the main lyricist for most of their songs. Yes, this song is about being a Pisces and embraces the duality of the sign (one being brings life, another runs for death). Did you notice the little goldfish in her gauges? ( edit: the more a person listens to the harsh vocals the easier they are to understand. the ears and the brain will teach itself to recognize what's being said just like when you learn a new language)

Never gets old watching the first time people see the transition to *that* voice!

If you want to know how it is done, ask 'The Charismatic Voice' here on youtube. Opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff can explain a lot because she learned how to use such a harse voice/sound in a healthy way. I hope you will be able to comprehend how such things can be done. Please let us know .
Added after 14 hours:
Elizabeth works with Will Ramos and Chris Liepe on the course 'The Ultimate Path to Extreme Vocals with Will Ramos'. I heared they officialy started this last week.

In my humble opinion, the meaning of the song, in particular the chorus, is to represent the duality of "Piscis", witch is represented by 2 fishes "swimming" in opposite directions: "one being brings life, another runs for death". Also what I get from the song is no matter what the world brings you or what happens around you, you can choose to be who you are, any of those personalities, you can see in many of the verses: "I drew a different reality...", "Ego hardly can be picked cos I'm selfless", "hooks and nets are there for me but I'm skittish"...
But again, this is just my opinion 😊

Tati is a vocal beast and renowned for switching styles instantly.

Her speaking voice is quite low for a woman, so the high belt in the end part is something she rarely does live - it'd strain her voice too much to keep singing hour and a half, so she usually growls it. On the album recording there's growl and belt overlaid.

The rough vocals here are usually referred as growling, signature for death metal and derivatives. (Jinjer defies easy genre definitions, but deathcore, mix of metalcore and death metal, is the usual label).

Because her growls are made with false vocal folds she's not limited by the range of the true vocal folds and can thus go lower than the speaking voice. But it did take some *serious* amount of practicing to get there.

This particular song is quite straightforward for Jinjer, both vocally and compositionally. Other songs feature reggae, jazz and other styles on clean vocals, often several in one song.

The lyrics you easily find on the web are wrong on the first line of the chorus: it's "scale armour belies", which makes more sense, too.

The song is about duality of pisces, reflected for example in one going for life and another for death. If you look at the opening verses, you see it describe her putting up a nice and harmless face out to hide the turmoil inside, and then the chorus kind of reveals what she tries to keep hidden. So it's again the duality - the face she puits to the world, and real her.

I enjoyed your reaction. Jinjer has been one of my favorite bands for the last 5 years. Jinger uses a very solid jazz fondation in many of their songs they have also incorporated Reggie into their music. A new Jinjer song is like a musical adventure, it is hard to predict what twist or turn it's going to take.

Hi Jess, thanks for another great reaction. As far as I understand the lyrics, this song is about the duality (Pisces) of someone who has emotionally suffered during relationships but is fighting the insecurity and trauma of those experiences in order to find a meaningful relationship. Have a great evening and thank you for the upload.

Who’s Gonna Be The One

The live version should be your next reaction to Jinjer. She has such a presence on stage and the end will shock you. Her talent!

"Scale armor blaze...": I believe this line is actually "Scale armor belies virgin innocence". I don't know if this might help with drawing meaning from the lyrics, but thought I'd offer that as a possible alternative line. Also, I love that you pointed out the lack of first person pronouns (I/me/my) in the chorus! You mentioned wanted to see her more closely--there's a video of her doing a one-take vocal for Judgment and Punishment that really shows her face and neck clearly.
