I have so many mark making tools that haven't used in ages - today I was ready to experiment.

In this video, I demonstrate and explain the creative process I use to have fun playing with a wild color palette, making random and intentional marks as I went.

Materials used: 300 gsm paper, acrylic paint, acrylic ink, Neocolor II crayons, and collage paper.

Comments, questions, and shares are always welcome and appreciated - Thank you for watching!

Follow me for more tutorials, paintings, and behind-the-scenes footage from inside my studio:

Hi Jackie .... I love using my Gelli plate to make collage papers but never thought of using it in the way you did. Using it like a big stamp with things in-between that mask areas that end up showing what's under is BRILLIANT! I need to try this soon!!!! Thanks once again for your inspiration!

I would have used deli paper to lift excess paint, that way I can hoard even more paper and eventually use it haha. This is a great experiment, I loved the marks made with ribbon. Thank you for sharing

I loved watching the evolution of these pieces, I don’t know why we are so hesitant to make bold layers and then work them out but, it doesn’t come naturally to me! You being brave helps us be brave, thank you!💕🇨🇦

Your color combos might have been unusual to start with, but wow, they really came together in the end. Loved it.

Red/light blue/black/white and red/olive green/black and white are my two fav color combos.

I like this colour combo!!! It's a version of RYB, isn't it? And then the magic of black and white. I really like the technique/effect of putting down the ribbon and then gelli printing over top 👍🏼. I have sealed Neo2s by gently pressing gel or matte medium over top using a paper towel, but never thought to use the medium to smush them around AND seal them! Jackie, what do you do with all these cut up paintings? Do you put them in an art journal, or??? BTW, I really like this format where we can watch the artist do her thang while listening to the commentary and I particularly enjoy *your* commentary. Greetings from sunny but cold Toronto, Canada!

These are 1. Gorgeous, and 2. Immensely inspirational and 3. Very Jackie! Just incredible. I must admit I'm envious of your commitment once you jump in -- not sure whether it's patience, determination or discipline but you just keep pushing through until you end up with something spectacular, whereas I often find myself just giving up in frustration. I wonder if you see yourself as productive when you complete a sitting such as this one?

i like the way you keep the process interesting all the way through. "what if" is in effect to the very end. the most enjoyment for the artist! 😊❤

I am still working on the last few lessons from CVP 2023, but yes, I've found it very valuable. I am fairly new (the last 5 years) to being an artist, but I think anybody at any level can learn from it! I have seen how some experienced artists ahve taken their work to an entirely new level. I particularly love the current work of Amy Livezy Brakeman. I think she has a web page, but her work went from being good to really being extraordinary, combining realism with abstraction and creating exquisite paintings that are in a unique style that I love!

I love the Golden neons but I find any neon goes off quickly and smells hideous … mind you, I keep using them anyway! Love watching your process.

Turned out great!! Love the colors and strong black with so many fun shapes. I need to learn to be more adventurous and less careful to cover up areas I like.
You covered up areas that I went "oh no!" but then it turned out great.
