There was never a god in the ancient world named Molech

I was in a church that taught about Molech and identified people who continue to worship this god today. (Read: Their political enemies.) What's weird is these same churches, because of their weak accountability, were hotbeds for child abuse.

“Particularly for Jason Newsted”
Amen to that brother. Lars is a criminal for what he did to that album.

There is an interesting and plausible hypothesis in the fact that Molech is a fruit of what we call a "Tiqqun soferim." it is a scribal alteration of words associated with a theology that is disturbing.
Like Merib-baal became Mephibosheth. "Bosheth" meaning "Shame." There is a lot more.
And MoLEK is a deformation of MeLEK which is YWHW himself as the king.
So Molek = מֹלֶך
Melek = מְלַךְ
It’s a work of Massoretes vocalisations.

Abraham was eager to sacrifice Isaac, who was referred as his only son. Maybe that chapter was written before Ishmael was invented.

These kind of videos are what I call response baits. Can't wait for Dr. McClellan's replies of the replies!

And justice for Jason Newsted.

Much respect for your acknowledgment of the injustice done to Jasonic (and our ears).

Discovered the other day that the local garbage disposal company is named Molek.

That's a tad dark, innit?

I don't know why there's any doubt about the custom of child sacrifice in ancient Israel. When Abraham was commanded to sacrifice his son Isaac, he did not need instructions on how to do it.

Well said. Past time to get the truth out about Molech and child sacrifice.

The word was reinterpreted as the name of a deity. And then as the name of a Daedric prince.

Rad t-shirt. I’m always down for the first 4 and 1/2 Metallica records and biblical scholarship.

Of course Yahweh wanted a child sacrifice from time to time.
Judges 11:30-40 Jephthah killed his young daughter (his only child) as a burnt sacrifice to the lord.
Exodus 12:29 God killed every first-born child of every family in Egypt.
Genesis 22 Abraham told to sacrifice his son, Isaac.
There are more.
All-loving, my arse.

Never heard of anyone believing Molech was a "God" it's always been referred to as the type of sacrifice. Baal was always the "God"

Hey Dan, love your content! I would be very interested in a video discussing what the biblically supported concept of Heaven is. Is it the stereotypical hanging out in clouds? Something like the Good Place where it mirrors Earth except life is perfect? A completely incomprehensible experience? etc.

What about Jer 7:31?

They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind.

With your recent shares regarding “Moloch” I would like to request an elucidation on the “Star of Remphan” mentioned next to the “tabernacle of moloch” in Acts 7:43. 🙏🏻

Well, there you have it. Yahweh, formerly Baal, demanded child sacrifice. I think that puts a nice big bow on the mythology of the Abrahamic god. Time to turn out the lights on the Bible as a moral compass for humanity. Ironic that Isaac and Jesus both fall under the concept of child sacrifice.

after he said "...and justice for all, but wspecially jason newstead" i thought he was going to say a growing number of scholars are coming to think he was unfairly underrated and screwed over by the rest of the band

*Baal-Hamon, receiver of child sacrifices*

Like most ancient cultures, the Canaanites (later called Phoenicians by the Greeks) offered sacrifices to their gods. The Phoenicians referred to this practice the letters MLK.

Unfortunately, vowels were not a thing yet, but this word — perhaps pronounced molk — is clearly associated with the character Moloch, the Hebrews’ looking-glass version of an evil Canaanite god who, among his crimes, receives children as burnt offerings.

It is not uncommon for cultures to make up atrocities about their enemies. There is no good archaeological evidence that the MLK-sacrifices in Canaan involved children, let alone child sacrifices to the storm god in particular, so we should probably leave poor Baal-Hadad alone in that regard.

Go further west a few centuries later though, in the Phoenicians’ North African colony of Carthage, and it is pretty clear that another Baal (Lord) did receive children as burnt offerings.

Many of the most famous biblical references to Baal, for example the tale of Jezebel, are related to the traditions of the cities of Sidon and Tyre, where the title of Baal (Lord) was applied to deities other than Hadad.
