I found that if you ignore the images, read what he says, imagine what he says, and THEN look at his drawings— and THEN draw them- you’ll understand his methods a lot better.

Man, everyone is saying how I should "practice figure by simplifying it into boxes" but you are the only person on youtube who actualy gave me a reason to, because obviously if I just draw boxes whole day I will only improve at primitive form and perspective (which I did) but I would never learn to draw what I actualy want: realistic looking people and animals, your more complex organic forms as a next step after boxes are EVERYTHING I ever wanted to learn abouf form and you explained it all perfectly, great job!

It's difficult to go through this series because I'm 50% filled with enthusiasm and instantly want to apply all of this to drawings, 50% bursting with anticipation to find out what's taught in the next video (haha)

This video helped me so much, I always struggle with drawing the body, especially with making the body look 3 dimensional.
I should really pick up this book sometime.

From time to time I come back here to refresh my Bridgman understanding. I have more than one of his books but I found your lessons a lot more pleasant and engaging than going back to the books themselves. It's a pity you're not doing this kind of lessons anymore

When I started using the Bridgman CONSTRUCTIVE ANATOMY book many years ago to teach myself human anatomy, my drawings of the figure (out of my head) improved tremendously! (This is before I had ever done any life drawing.) I later had a drawing instructor whose father had studied with Bridgman.

Coming to this video as a student that once took art classes. I’ve had some past experience studying anatomy, doing live drawings of models and still lifes, even using bones and other objects for reference. But as someone who hasn’t drawn human anatomy in a long time, this purchase, and videos related to the subject, are a great refresher. I’m no Leonardo, but as someone who considers themselves an experienced intermediate, I always appreciate videos as a visual aid, especially if paired with books and other materials.

I love the nutcracker playing in the background. These figures have a great flow as if they are dancing.

Great video!

Really glad you're picking up Bridgeman and honing that gesture/form that Proko is known for teaching. The best of both worlds: constructional and gestural.

Bridgman's book is amazing. I still refer to it more than twenty years after and I still learn from it. Thanks for this video, it's a great commentary!

it's nice to see someone explain Bridgman. I stumbled across his "Constructive Anatomy" years ago and asap got my hands on "Drawing from Life". All of my peers would always suggest Loomis, which is a good resource too, but I was always more drawn to Bridgman. And as far as getting this info from a college, fuh gedah a 'bout it...

I worked through one of his books and really felt like I'd made some progress, must go back to that. Thanks present times Jim!

Dude you're skills and style and everything is like my biggest inspiration. Obviously this comment is outside of the actual focus of the study of bridgeman but just having gone through many of your videos and how you have adopted many of the skills of the masters and able to apply it with absolute precision in your own way, just blows my mind and what I have always aspired to achieve from many of those same masters. You are a true moderndaymaster James. Thanks for what you provide I'm always astonished in amazement.

Great video! It has been so long since I've read Bridgman's constructive drawing, I got a copy when I decided that I wanted to pursue art as a career, back then the book was a bit on the overwhelming side for a self taught beginner like me, now seeing this video the content makes a lot of sense! Thanks for putting this tutorial together! : )
