What’s happening in this A League of their Own movie clip?
The Peaches and Belles meet in the World Series, which reaches a seventh and deciding game. Dottie (Geena Davis from Thelma & Louise and Stuart Little) is the catcher for the Peaches, while Kit (Lori Petty) is the starting pitcher for the Belles.

What’s the A League of their Own movie about?
During World War II when all the men are fighting the war, most of the jobs that were left vacant because of their absence were filled in by women. The owners of the baseball teams, not wanting baseball to be dormant indefinitely, decide to form teams with women. So scouts are sent all over the country to find women players. One of the scouts, passes through Oregon and finds a woman named Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis from Thelma & Louise and Stuart Little), who is incredible. He approaches her and asks her to try out but she's not interested. However, her sister, Kit (Lori Petty) who wants to get out of Oregon, offers to go. But he agrees only if she can get her sister to go. When they try out, they're chosen and are on the same team. Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks from Big, Forrest Gump and Philadelphia), a former player, who's now a drunk, is the team manager. But he doesn't feel as if it's a real job so he drinks and is not exactly doing his job. So Dottie steps up. After a few months when it appears the girls are not garnering any attention, the league is facing closure till Dottie does something that grabs attention. And it isn't long Dottie is the star of the team and Kit feels like she's living in her shadow.

I love how supportive her Raccine teammates were of Kit after she lost the lead. It showed that getting traded to Raccine was the right thing for her. In contrast to when she was on Rockford she had players like Delores who would taunt her and instigate trouble. When I first saw this movie in the theatre as a teenager in the early 90s I was upset that Rockford didn't win because I had gotten to know the players on Rockford. But looking back now, I'm glad Raccine won. And it is historically accurate because in real life Raccine did win the first championship.

Always cracked me up when Dottie chases down that foul, catches it and crashes and you hear her crashing into the ground to. Just made me laugh 🤣

I will go to my grave believing that Dottie dropped that ball on purpose.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE, but once it gets to the part where Kit's team is up I have to stop watching it or fast forward. Kit was a whiner and a baby. If I ever acted the fool like she she did on the field no matter what age my mom would have marched down to the field and removed me from the game period. Ugh Kit's sportsmanship irks me to no end. Sorry rant over, haha

Kit needed to learn how to take a loss and learn and get better on her own. Allowing her to win just handicaps her going forward, others won't care about her dreams, and she will be worse off for it.

Dottie was the better player and she knew it, but it cut her to her soul to see Kit in so much distress. She loved her sister so much, and cared so much for Kit’s dream, that she was willing to sacrifice something that made her feel better than anything else. Amazing movie

I will never forgive Dottie for throwing the game to give her bratty sister a false sense of accomplishment. I had good money on Rockford! A whole $5!

GREAT movie! Penny Marshall was dynamite as a director.

My favorite scene. Kit was always in her sister's shadow and this was a moment where she could have easily withered. But she wanted her moment in the sun more than she was afraid of being bested again. Very inspiring.

May get hate for this, but I believe that Kit was never bratty. She spent her whole life being compared to her sister and being told that she would never be good enough. I can understand that.

And you wanna bet that Kit got hell for beating Dottie, for once?

She knew she could win it, but she loves her sister so much.

Just showed this to my reluctant 6th grade students.
Didn't take them long to be hooked!
Meanwhile a couple other adults from the building had come into my room for various reasons... one super excited I was showing this and another just stood and watched alongside

High fastballs.

She can't hit them. She can't lay off them.

It's an amazing movie. What's heartbreaking to me is after she drops the ball the whole team is celebrating when Dottie is on the ground. It was like a down go Frasier moment for Dottie. It was just heartbreaking. But overall an amazing movie.

This final game shows why I think they had to write Marla out of the story. If they wanted Kit to be pitching and Dottie batting they needed one less power hitter in the lineup. As Kit got tired before going through the lineup the 3rd time, in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings, I think Marla would have teed off on one. You can also wonder if it even would have made it to game 7 and Dottie's return if Marla was in the lineup for the first up to 6 games.

Dottie is a very secure woman. She doesn't even need to win it.
