Could this be a reference to a Chinese story called 神笔马良，basically the the main character is rlly good at painting and was gifted a manic paint brush where whatever he paints would come to life, some other ppl got jealous so they stole the brush to paint money, it didn’t work cus only the original owner of the brush can make paintings come to life, so the main character pretended to help them paint money but he painted a “money hill” in the middle of the ocean, painted a boat, and when the ppl got on the boat he drowned them instead.
