Ice lagoon in Iceland

There is a place in Iceland, which, even against the background of the other beauties of the island, stands apart. This is the famous ice lagoon of Jökülsaarloun, where large and small icebergs break away from the glaciers slowly drift toward the ocean in an area of 18 square kilometers. This ghostly procession of luminous ice floes conquered not one director who wanted to shoot a commercial, clip or even a scene in his film - for example, Lee Tamahori with the boney "Die, but not now" or Christopher Nolan with the first part of the Batman trilogy. For me, this fairy bay was the main impression of Iceland, because I first saw icebergs, and even so close.

What shape are drifting ice floes, how do they move and are they thrown ashore? We look below in this story!

The road to the ice lagoon was remembered to me, as the most windy in my life. Little Hyundai literally took off the track, and I tried to drive along the diverting one, so that from the next gust of wind not be on the sidelines - the benefit of traffic allowed. The weather near the lagoon was not much different - strong wind, cloudiness and rain in the face. But there was nowhere to retreat, so I put on a raincoat over the ski jacket, wrapped myself around to the maximum and climbed onto the embankment with which this look opened.

As you already knew, the ice lagoon is almost the main impression of Iceland. Highly recommend!
