If you play it, it exists. Whether its existence is justified all depends on the context. Love this Jens!

Beautiful progression, you commentary reminds me of the Picaso quote, "Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist."

Dude that was beautiful, the progression felt mysterious and unresolved but ended up resolving at the end. Definitely saving this to my watch later👍

For anyone wondering:

Ab7 = Ab C Eb Gb
and
#IV double dim in C = F# (Gb) Ab C Eb

It's the same notes, Ab7 is the first inversion of the #IV double dim.

I really like this!
Especially with the lush reverb.

It's a tritone sub of D7 and you can approach a tonic from a whole step above or below.

In traditional theory, it’s called an augmented 6th chord. With the 5th it’s a German 6th, b5 makes it a French 6th, no 5th makes it an Italian 6th. Many times this resolves to the V chord or the I in second inversion. It’s a beautiful sound!

You always play beautiful chords and chord progressions Lars. They obviously exist 😅

Reminds me of the climax of that old Louis Armstrong song, “and i (Ab7) say to myself, what a wonderful world (C major)

i think the Ab makes all the difference, if u mean by #4o7 ie., F# A C Eb... the Ab makes it sound out of this world

I really don't understand the way you name it, but as long as it works for you, it's fine. For me it's a bVI7 chord, in a jazzyfied chromatic mediant context. At least we agree that German augmented sixth is a very complicated name for a simple chord. No matter how you name it, it's a great progression.

As long as there is a beginning and an end chord. Everything else in the middle is auxiliary.
