Sümela Monastery is a Greek Orthodox monastery located in the Maçka district of Trabzon Province, Turkey. The monastery is situated on the side of a mountain overlooking the Altındere valley, and is a popular tourist destination. It was founded in the 4th century by two monks from Alexandria, and has a long history of religious and cultural significance for the region.
