With our data source created we can now focus on the Data Source View.

What is a Data Source View ?

A Data Source View allows the developer to create a logic view of the data to be placed in to the cube. This logical view should be contructed in a denomalized fashion; meening that this information should already be in a structure of dimensions and fact tables. Easier said than done, there is always going to be a table missing or a field calculation missed during the ETL stage.

So this video will not only explain what a Data Source View is but also show you have you can add calculation and even new views based on only the data sources at your disposal. This video is a MUST see if you want to control your masterfully control your data!

Great videos btw. One question - when I explore tables after selecting a named query I don't get the pivot table, chart, or pivot chart options. This is on SQL 2012. Suggestions?

"I don't get the pivot table, chart, or pivot chart options. This is on SQL 2012."

FYI (In case you never got an answer elsewhere)...Those were based on the office web controls which were deprecated in SQL Server 2012 and that's why you don't see those tabs (nor I).  Kind of suck because the reported work around (per Microsoft) is to launch Excel from within Data Tools and use Excel.  Only problem is that its limited to less rows then what you could have gotten with the Office web components.  sound's to me like this was another MS Back Step action

When you're creating your Customers sub diagram in your Diagram Organiser, why would you include the factInternetSales table with the customers table? I would have expected the Customers table and other dimension tables relating to the customers...
