Was an 11B in the 10th Mountain Division from 1995-2003, had a great time and learned a lot. The con was you were either training or deploying, I deployed five times in eight years. Pros, promotions came fast and specialty schools were abundant. What did I do after service, worked as a career firefighter for 18 years before moving on to an arson and explosion investigator. However, I was able to obtain my PhD after service as well, the discipline I received by being in the infantry enabled me to press on when things got overwhelming in school. Another con about being in the infantry was going to sick call for anything was frowned upon, so many injuries went undocumented which in turn becomes a major problem when dealing with the VA later in life.

Do I regret my time as an infantryman, absolutely not.

Best part of being an 11B is not knowing any other MOS classifications and not caring

Pros: you get to do more "Army" stuff than any other MOS

Cons: you get to do more "Army" stuff than any other MOS

My cousin was an 11B and tells me a pro would be you get really strong arms from learning how to use a buffer. The con would be that once you get out, your spouse now expects you to buff their kitchen floors.

For me, as a 92R, parachute rigger, the biggest pro was getting airborne in your contract. The con would be actually jumping out of a plane….

11B is a fantastic "starter" MOS. Make it to E-4/SPC to E-5/SGT, then RECLASS unless you're in love with it. The Infantry will teach you leadership, how to "embrace the suck, " the orders process, discipline, small unit tactics, and a myriad of schools like air assault, airborne, etc.

If you find that's what you love, find your way into "special" units like the Rangers. Like any career, why not shoot for "the best"? This move should be one of a dedicated career (20+ years). If it's not, reclass. Reclass (change your MOS) to 18 series (Special Forces) or take your pic of what you qualify for. Your time in the Infantry still counts towards retirement, your skills in leadership, discipline, etc., will all be just as important in your new MOS. Your skills that you did (Air assault, airborne, maybe sniper school, etc.) will still be useful if not help you get promoted in your new MOS.

11B, as I said, is a wonderful place to start in the Army.

If you enjoy the outdoors, shooting guns, blowing stuff up, and hanging out with the boys; then 11b for you. If you don’t like any of those hobbies and more a city folk then it not for you. Especially if you are squeamish and afraid of the woods. Go for a support mod that stays a good distance from the front.

I was an 11 bang bang for three years now I'm an instructor. Pro, got to shoot many different types of weapons and got to become a team leader in different live fires. Con, got task with many dumb details about 90% percent of the time I was in, which is way too true what he talks about in the video. I miss the friendships that I made along the way and the fact that I got to lead, which force me to come out of my comfort zone. I don't miss all of the bs. Stay strong. Definitely do not regret joining.

I’m 31, just signed a 6 year 11B contract. After struggling for the past few years to do right by my wife and kids in this new “great” economy, I’ve decided to go a different route with my life and do something I can be proud of. I just watched my 18yr old stepson graduate basic this past April, that really gave me the motivation to pull the trigger on this decision I’ve thought about for a while. I’ve watched a lot of these videos and they really have helped me get mentally ready for this new chapter. I’ll be flying out for OSUT in 3 weeks. Wish me luck.

Run 30 miles a week, in the field more than you're actually on base and when you're on base you start the day at 0630 so wakeup at 0530 work until 1800 every day. Do very little of the cool fun shit you think we do. Being cussed out and smoked until you literally want to die just so the smoking will stop regularly... (current 11B alpha team leader)

Ii was an 11B for 12 years. The pro I have is I never reenlisted out of the infantry because I didn't want to have a real job, work all day and then clean weapons at 1700. A con was I had to deal with some of the most incompent ncos and officers in the army.

Served 10 years as 11C on active duty. 2 years as 11B and 3 years as 19D in the Guard.
The suck to awesome ratio is 90% suck, 5% not to bad, and 5% awesome.
As Gruntpa always said, " Pain goes away. Broken bones heal, chick's dig scars, and Glory lasts forever. ".

11B is one of the few MOS codes that haven't changed since the 70s. I was a company clerk assigned to 1/38th Inf with 2ID in July 1974. I arrived there to find they already had an SP5 company clerk. I stayed in the orderly room, but had a feeling I might have to go to the field at some point in the future and I hated field duty. I knew a guy in 2d AG from my first tour in Korea that ended in Jan 74, so I made a few phone calls and in September 74 I got transferred to Camp Humphreys. Compared to my first tour in 2ID, Humphreys was the REMF life.

As a 11B pros and cons the people overlook, we cross train other MOS jobs so we can support ourselves until our real support can take over ( you will drive 88m, you will be forward observer 13F, you would do Recon 31D, you would work in chow halls 92G, you will work with comms 25U, you will learn first aid and lifesaving procedures 68w, you will learn how to clear mines and obstacles 12B, help fix on the vehicles in the motor pool 91B

I did 11B for four years 1Oth Mth 2-22, Got out and made the mistake of becoming a cop. 11B doesn't translate to the police force. Advise, find a trade, you never know what the future may bring.

I went infantry (11B) in 1988 and received a free all expenses paid trip to Europe, while I was there I got to go camping in the Bavarian mountains, they have USO trips you can take (went to Paris) what was really cool was driving an M113 armored vehicle all over the beautiful German countryside 👍
