Biodiversity hotspots are regions exceptionally rich in species, and also highly threatened by human activity. There are over 30 such hotspots around the world. They cover less than 3 percent of the Earth’s land surface, but support a large number of plants and animals, most of which are endemic, and found nowhere else.
