AFTERBUZZ TV — The Flash edition, is a weekly "after show" for fans of CW's The Flash. In this episode, hosts Tiona Hobson, Jeff Masters, and Tauri Miller discuss episode 9.

ABOUT THE FLASH:
Flash is based upon characters published by DC Comics where through a freak accident scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is given the power of super speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive.

After witnessing his mother's (Michelle Harrison) supernatural murder and his father's (John Wesley Shipp) wrongful conviction for the crime, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is taken in by Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) and his family. Allen becomes a brilliant but socially awkward crime scene investigator for the Central City Police Department. His obsession with his tragic past causes him to become an outcast among his peers; he investigates cold cases, paranormal occurrences, and cutting-edge scientific advancements that may shed light on his mother's murder. No one believes his description of the crime—that a ball of lightning with the face of a man invaded their home that night—and Allen is fiercely driven to vindicate himself and to clear his father's name. Fourteen years after his mother's death, an advanced particle accelerator malfunctions during its public unveiling, bathing the city center with a previously unknown form of radiation during a severe thunderstorm. Allen is struck by lightning from the storm and doused with chemicals in his lab. Awakening after a nine-month coma, he discovers he has the ability to move at superhuman speeds. Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh), the disgraced designer of the failed particle accelerator, describes Barry's special nature as "metahuman"; Allen soon discovers that he is not the only one who was changed by the radiation. Allen vows to use his gifts to protect Central City from the escalating violence of metahuman criminals. He is aided by a few close friends and associates who guard his secrets.

Six months after the events of the first season, after a singularity event, the Flash is recognized as Central City's hero. Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears), the Flash from a parallel universe, visits Barry and warns him another speedster named Zoom (also portrayed by Sears and voiced by Tony Todd) is trying to eliminate everyone connected to the Speed Force throughout themultiverse. Jay, and later Harrison Wells' parallel universe counterpart, work to help Barry and his friends stop Zoom. Joe and his daughter, Iris (Candice Patton), struggle with their shared painful past related to their family, especially after the arrival of Iris's brother Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale), whom Francine West (Vanessa A. Williams) gave birth to shortly after abandoning her family.

Dr Alchemy was using the the
Philosopher's Stone since he was introduced in the 1950s. And the term and idea of a Philosopher's Stone has been around for thousands of years.

Iris is for sure not dying. They wouldn't make a big deal of showing it the way they did, they would have waited to show us her death. Also, for Jay to say to Barry that the future he saw might not even happen, kind of you gives you a hint that the future he saw might be altered and someone else might die in the place of Iris.

I think it's going to be Barry who's the one to betray them. Think about it, he left a message for the Legends telling them he's not to be trusted... He can't be trusted because he's going to betray everyone, probably in his pursuit to same Iris.

I think Wally will be the one to betray the gang. We have yet to see the ramifications of how Wally got his powers. He is a servant of Savitar; he just doesn't know it yet. I bet he'll go into the speedforce, find the stone/box, and free Savitar. Or somehow, Wally will become Savitar's vessel and that is how he is able to kill iris? I know the speedforce is where Savitar is so it can seem like throwing a key into a jail cell, but the speedforce is a huge/infinite dimension of space and time. I think it would take eons if not forever to actually find that box...even for a speedster.

I loved this episode. Flash has been on fire this season. Thanks for your fun review and Geeking out about my favorite show. You guys rock!
Per usual I wrote a book lol here is My Favorite highlights:
Wally and HR dancing was fun to watch!

Julian being nice to my boy flash. I approved of him now.

Cisco not hating Barry was nice (jumanji reference was lol) but I felt so bad for Cisco when Savitar use his brother to
emotionally blackmail Cisco to release Savitar. That was heartbreaking! Thank you Caitlin aka Saver Frost for stepping in.

Naturally Julian channeling Savitar was amazing scene but in terrifying made my skin crawl kind of way. His acting was impressive when he became this self-titled ‘god of speed’ using his knowledge of the future to state the team’s destiny as an unavoidable fact gave me the chills; its psychological warfare at its best for me and Barry. We are wondering whether Savitar’s claims are exactly as they seem… and who may be the most likely candidates, if they are. But like Barry I will try be happy and live in the moment and hope for the best. Poor Barry he just cannot catch a break ever.

Wally getting his Kid Flash suit which means his family accepts his destiny as hero. He will need more training. We need Arrow to teach him skills/logic not HR.

I really dig hipster wells. His comedy is gold! He makes me laugh! He is insightful and positive. I love this interpretation of him. He still keeps it real but with a better bedside manner. He’s a KEEPER! I approve of him.

Thank you Barry for enlisting the help of Jay Garrick aka Barry Insightful Down to Earth Who Keeps Barry from Doing Something Dumb Mentor (whom I love to watch) we find out Savitar was the first man ever granted speed and over time became the “god of motion.” I am intrigued by this villain and I do think we will see him again. Barry may need to get all the heroes from crossover to beat him which would be epic.

My theory: I don't think Iris is going to be the one to die because they already showed her death and it would be too obvious but I think Cisco is going to be the traitor either him or Wally and Barry will have the fate worse than death and maybe Joe will die?? Just a theory though. Naturally I do not want any of this to happen. I am sucker for happy endings
I was sensing romantic vibes: I am shipping Caitlin and Julian ##Caitlian.

My awesome prediction: The Flash has turned Caitlin Snow into a supervillain, but could her lost husband firestorm be the cure to Killer Frost’s curse. It is possibility no one ever stay dead & we know that flashpoint takes lives could it bring back life. Caitlin can make it Snow! That is awesome by the way I felt the essence of Elsa from frozen when she did that lol. I wanted to sing let it go or let it snow!

Overall I am satisfied with this episode. The flash show never lets me down. I look forward to 2017 with optimism.

If Wally is Savitar why would he kill Iris? I'd rather see Wally be a version of Daniel West. I want Savitar to be Savitar.

I can't believe no one on the panel noticed Savitar (through Julian) call HR "fake Wells". I think he is the betrayer. And Tiona? The Philosopher's stone has been around WAY longer than Harry Potter.

The actor who we saw transforming (haha) is the same dude who played Collosus in the earlier x-men movies

After Barry threw the box into the speed force, he got sucked into the future. This happened because the speed force doesn't want Iris to die because Barry has suffered so much. So the speed force is telling Barry to find away to save her because it trust Barry and that he does deserves his powers. Barry didn't even think to run into the future. It was the speed force that brought him there because the portal to the speed force was still opened, not a portal to the future.

37:27 Kinda like what Booster Gold tried to do; Stop The Joker from paralyzing Barbara.

I quite like Tauri's prediction of the "One will suffer fate far worse than death" to be Wally. There's a prediction that I really like, that is similar but without Wally becoming Savitar. Wally runs incredibly fast and incinerated into the Speed Force is very possible and being trap in the Speed Force is worse than death.

I must say I might have to stop watching if Iris dies! I mean his Mom, his Dad and the love of his life is just to much!! If they want to make a Barry a villain, then yes, kill Iris but another tragic death by another evil speedster is too repetitive!!! Don't kill Iris!!

If Wally is Savitar and Iris dies, Id say Joe would be the one who suffers a fate worse then death because he lost all his children

Who alchemy was wasn't a big deal. It was CLEAR when they casted Tom Felton

That makes a lot of sense that throwing the Box into the Speed Force FREES Savitar. BUT it makes sense that Future Barry threw him back in time and Julian discovered him in the past due to FLASHPOINT. And I believe it's cause ReverseFlash.

Now Barry will train him now that everybody is cool with it. It's called patience.

If Wally goes bad and betrays or is trapped in the speed force and Iris dies then the fate worse than Death would be Joe for losing both kids 😥

Guys the reason they don't want to send Wally is because of WALLY's mentality! He so impulsive, reckless, and thinks everything is a game. NONE of the other speedsters are like that, not even Jessie. Until Wally matures I'm always going to have a problem with him helping.

I feel that we could also see it be Eddie since I know it's said he died, but the way Savitar spoke.... It made me think that there had to have been a reason they showed us Eddie's body going into the singularity. Savitar says Barry took everything from him. Made him, suffer, etc. So what if it was Eddie, than potentially, he was basically dead, but somehow its pulled from the brink of it and revived but at a cost (like Sara on Arrow) and he was like way, way in the past (hence Savitar being considered a god). If not that, then Future Barry or Wally (fate worse than death since in the comics he gets trapped in the speed force), cause if you remove the pause Savitar made, when Barry asked who he was then his answer changes to " I'm the Future Flash" . The only thing that doesn't quite add is why either of those three men would want to kill Iris, Hunter Zolomon (Zoom) last season while evil, did "love" Caitlin, so I feel like even if they were evil, neither of these men would kill Iris as she's too important to each of them. So ultimately, I don't know who it could be, I just don't want it to be Wells again, someone new like Zoom last year, etc. Also, hopefully, after this season, they do a non-speedster big bad... shit's getting old. I would have almost preferred Alchemy be the only big bad.
