The power is actually close. around 4.0hp But the 261 is 10lbs vs 12.5lb 291. And the 261 is a completely different saw. The 291 is a non crank case motor vs the 261 you can change the piston and cylinder with an hour of time IF you ever needed to. The 291 is a good saw but you have to understand why its 200 less then the 261.

cut times are subjective because it depends on too many factors. the biggest difference is that the 261 is designed to be repaired whereas the 291 is a "throw away" if something happens to the engine. NOT saying its a "bad saw" because for the average user, its more than enough and will last decades. The 261 is a pro quality saw designed for constant/daily use and to be fully serviceable. I have its predecessor (251 wood boss) that my grandpa got new in 1981 and it still cuts like a champ.

Mike, ive read through alot of these comments, and i must say you've got the patience of Job. Some of these people make my eye twitch with what they say or said. Great video, and both are wonderful saws.

The anti vibration is better in the 261. The rest of it doesn't matter that much. 19 years of experience here and you drop it 50' or someone runs over it with something before you can wear either saw out. I don't care about the 2 lbs either. The vibration from all cheap saws will wreck your hands for life if you use them all of the time.

Die 261 ist das Optimum zwischen Gewicht und Kraft!

I went from a suburban setting to rural and thought my electric battery operated chainsaw would be up to the task. Found that one out quickly and it was recommended that i get the 261C. Will never look back

Which saw is better stihl ms 291 or ms 271, I know 261 is better than both but I don't need a profesional saw

I have the 361 and its night and day difference between the pro saws and the occasional use saw. The cheaper saws are heavier and bulkier and just wear you out faster. You get what you pay for and the ability to rebuild/ repair a saw vs throwaway is worth the little extra money to me.

It’s wild to see all these homeowners comparing their farm saw to professional saws, and some even claiming they’re “better.” Stihl makes it pretty easy to comprehend which is the better saw for YOU: If you use it occasionally to maintain your own farm or ranch then yours is going to be the FARM. If you run it all day every day, year after year, then it’s the PRO. They even spell it out for you in 33 languages.

Even if the 291 cuts faster the 260 probably feels more refined, and that's a big deal.

Just bought a 291 this past weekend so I could retire my 028 super. Heck of a saw from the 170, 028, and old home lights and McCulloch saws from the 70s

Muffler mod on a 290 makes a huge difference. I like how we’re comparing apples to oranges with the different bar(and likely chain) setups. Just put an Oregon Versacut on my 290 and its way better that the stihl

Still using my ms290 that I bought in 2005. It may not be a beast of a saw, but it sure is reliable!
Granted, I'm not a professional, but my only source of heat in the up here in the north is wood, so I definitely use it.
It is put up with all of my inexperience in the early years not knowing how to sharpen a chain and all of that but boy that thing sure Cuts now!

In stock form 291 is a sad saw. Ported and muffler moded it will beat the 261 and all the cc-s will show up.

I used to run a ms310 with a muffler mod and 20" bar and a ms441c with a 28" bar. Year before last i bought an ms250 and haven't picked up the ms310 since. 90% of what i cut is oak thats 20" or less and the little 250 handles it well and is so light. When i have a big trunk or crotch that needs cut ill reach for the 441
