There was a measurement error, and after re-doing the experiment correctly, they found that neutrinos indeed travel slower than light.

It was debunked later and they had false measurements due to an improperly attached fiber optic cable and a clock oscillator that was ticking too fast. After fixing the errors it was not faster, but "consistent" with C. Since neutrinos have positive mass(although small) it can never reach full C.

I'm so glad so many people in the comments corrected this short. Yeah, this was almost immediately proved to be caused by malfunctioning equipment. No other lab was able to replicate the results either. That's a big deal in terms of alleged scientific discoveries.

It takes a lot more than just one lab saying "Hey, we broke relativity!" for the scientific community to throw out the modern textbooks. There's a whole scientific process that you have to exhaust before they even consider it... why, some might even call it a method. :P

The funny thing is that even the experimenters themselves knew the measurement was wrong. They published the paper in order to get help in figuring out the reason it was wrong. That is how much they trusted Einstein.

I love how science is willing to question their very foundation when they found that it might be wrong. It is disastrous, but they're willing to question it instead of ignoring the change and blindly following what the older generations have said. That's why I love science. It's always willing to question, always willing to be better.

For those that don’t get it, neutrinos have mass. Light photons do not. Therefore photons should be able to travel faster because it has no mass (at the speed of light) and anything that has mass cannot travel at the speed of light. So for neutrinos to outrun photons is physically impossible.
I would call into question the test before Einstein.
