The charm for me in SS13 has always been just hanging out in one of the less responsible jobs such as botanist, chef, librarian or otherwise during a slow round, bother the hell out of people as IA and sit in the bar and drink.

Then after about 10-20 minutes, you start seeing signs in the hallway that something's not right. You hear things on the radio that some things are definitely not okay. But you keep doing your job because nothing's wrong on your end.

Suddenly there's an explosion, a fire or you hear lasershots in the hallway. Alarms are going off, the shuttle gets called (if possible) and you step outside your little room to find the station is literally falling apart. There's holes in the hull, people running, the radio has people shouting for help or calling the station's doom.

There's always that one engineer in a hardsuit floating around on the outside, whom you spot through the window. If you're lucky he'll float away and if you're unlucky he laser blasts your through the glass.

Long story short - there's a time of peace, a time of doubt and then a time of certainty about how bad you need to get off station. And I love it.

I was once ERT one round and I lost sight of my team, so I went to the bridge and the syndicate was there holding 3 people hostage. The guy said "Looks like the A-Team arrived" and I said "I'm not the A-Team" and boom goes the wall behind me and my team rushes in.

Turns out that mistake was a really good one, and had stalled the guy long enough.

once we had a captain on our station who built escape shuttle consoles all over the place so that he could recall the shuttle from anywhere in case he still needed to finish his traitor objectives, I was the janitor and somebody stole my mop and Janicart and I got bludgeoned by the Chaplain (who was being literally the most blatant obvious syndie ever by the way, and nobody cared but me) so eventually I waited for the chaplain to leave, gathered a crapton of air tanks and an EVA suit, got in a locker, and launched myself from the churchs mass driver all the way into an abandoned station and then just spent the entire round over there
