How to Build a Domino Wall (pt. 2: Column Technique)

In this domino tutorial, I teach you how to build a domino wall and 2D pyramid using the column technique. This method is preferred for making irregularly shaped walls that may be wavy or circular. It's also easier to read text and other designs using this technique because the columns are on the same side.

Awesome tutorial Lily! The tutorials was also very detailed. The color combination of the wall was really good.
For me, I use column technique wall when I want to:
- Want to make words on the wall.
- Make turning walls or wall crossovers.
- Reveal words at the behind of the wall.
- Make it more easier when building.

Also, a massive thank you Lily for choosing me as a featured community member. I'm really surprised that I was chosen as a featured community member. :)

Yeah, you did a very nice job on this tutorial. Keep on building! Lily! :)

Hey Lily! Do you sometimes use an iPhone to record videos? I always use my old iPhone 8 that is released in 2017, kinda old for filming xD

Well, I would mainly recommend using the column technique when I make very curved walls and aside when you make different shapes, since the main advantage is that this technique can be manipulated a lot in terms of shapes, in the case of the alternative technique I would recommend it to use when making straight walls, the main advantage is that the alternative technique can be used very well so that the straight walls fall without any fail, since its "interspersed" shape makes it easier to collapse (something that does not happen in the technique of the column due to its column shape), fortunately when you make a curved wall using the column technique there is no risk of fail... now I do not recommend much to make a straight domino line to throw a domino wall (it I would use it for a screen link rather than a domino project), because it has happened and has even been documented in hundreds of videos of domino fails that the first dominoes on the wall get stuck and prevent the wall from falling, so I also recommend using a straight line of 90 degrees with respect to the wall and also if you make a straight line to the wall I would prefer to use field starters... now I had never heard the tip of putting a slanted horizontal domino in the final part of the wall every 6 layers if you put dominoes sideways, although if I would use that technique so that the wall falls perfectly, if you want your wall to look perfectly straight at the time of recording it at that angle I would prefer to put a vertical domino at the end of the wall instead of a slanted horizontal domino (although it also has its risk of falling but still do the same thing that Lily said in the video)... anyway, thank you very much for the tip because that makes it easier for me when building a domino wall with the column technique just like this detailed tutorial! 😊👍

PS: I really loved the September newsletter! 😉

i like the column technique because, in the alternatiing technique the dominoes are on the same side so, when i fall a dominocrumbles the whole structure

Awesome tutorial!
I am building domino walls for over a year now, but this video helped me a lot. There is always something to learn in dominoes!
The end cap....
Its super hard with my dominoes! Dimensions for wooden dominoes are really bad, so if anyone out there is trying to make a structure with wooden dominoes, watch out because it is not as easy compared to professional dominoes!
This tutorial really helped me a LOT because I am forced into using the column technique for square end caps, putting one diagonal domino every 6 layers is a clever idea, I have never used it, now I will! I used to make either complete diagonal end caps, or completely straight ones. Thanks for the help!
Anyways, good job :)
