I've always been interested in HAM radio, but I never seemed to find the time to delve into it. I'm 8 months away from retirement...so NOW'S THE TIME!!! I just ordered "Ham Radio for Dummies from your attached link....looking forward to incorporating your videos into my "training program"....

Oh Yeah, I am in a radio club with Ward. He is a very active ham. Not only has he written many book for the ARRL but he is a great Elmer. Ward is very approachable and will answer any question asked of him. Thanks for the video. 73 KE0OAP

I bought this book for my husband, because he had talked about getting his license (though he hasn't done so, yet). I decided to go ahead and get my license, in the meantime. I didn't read this book, because I'm a felon and wasn't even sure if my application would be approved. So, I just took my Technician's exam and figured I'd read the book if my application was approved. Thankfully, it was and my call sign was assigned today! :) I plan on taking the other exams in the future and now I'll read that book :)

4th Edition is on Audible - I used a credit to pick it up. Great comprehensive reference, so I also purchased the book itself afterwards.

I’m taking my technician exam in early October, and you are right - this is not a study guide. Covers much more.

I’m watching your 3 part YouTube prep videos and an excellent test prep guide by Craig “Buck” K4IA - should pass with ease:)

Then I’ll use the “Dummies” book for help

This is the first video I’ve ever seen on Ham radios. I thought it was for beginners. I barely understood anything you said. 😂

I bought the 1st edition in Singapore and found it good not just for beginners but also old timers who might want to intro our future hams

This book would make a great gift for a new or prospective ham. It's full of information that answers questions that new hams haven't even thought of yet. I wish I would have purchased this book on my way home from taking my test. Great reference book for anyone else.

Off-topic but I'm chuckling to myself at the grouches that will get bent out of shape over "Dummies".

Good information about the book. I think I'll check it out. BTW, the "Parts of Ten" is something that has to be included in all dummies books. It is a section at the end of the books where lists of 10 items are included. They are usually resources for further study and sometimes also include amusing bits of information that do not fit readily elsewhere.

I REALLY wanted to know about this subject of HAM radio. I was hoping someone could tell me why and how HAM is important. However, it seems everyone is more interested in showing off what they know than really getting others to understand the process. For me, here is the best way to communicate ANYTHING; TELL US WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO TELL US. THEN...TELL TELL US WHAT YOU TOLD US. THAT is the best way to communicate YOUR interests to someone who is just starting. All I see in too many of these videos are people just stroking their egos.

I am interested in getting a HAM radio, but it seems very overwhelming. Just the shotgun blast of acronyms gets me. I can't read a sentence without having to look up what an acronym in it means. It's almost like a foreign language. Having said that, I am nearly 60 years old and am about to retire, so I will have time to learn. Looking forward to my next hobby.

Hello. I’m a complete noob when it comes to H.A.M. Radios. I’ve recently been concerned with the events of the world and got into prepping. Now that I have most of my basis covered I need communication for not only prepping but entertainment. I’m very technically savy I just need a good teacher. I bought two Baofeng radios and as I do more research I hear 50/50 good things about it. Equally bad things. I’m not afraid to spend some cash as I know I want a “good” set up but I feel like I’m getting ahead of myself. I need to understand what is a ham radio and how it works. What I can do with it and what others do with it. I want a home set up and a portable set up. No matter what I search every video starts with assumptions I know more than I do. I need complete dumbed down to the bare bones intro. To H.A.M. Radios. Can you do such a video or recommend one. I want to go about this the legit way and the wink wink way. Just for a post apocalyptic scenario. Any suggestions on what to buy. I figure 800-1000$ for everything is my budget. As previously stated I already own two baofengs and their respective uhf/vhf extended antennas and extended batteries for each. I also bought the data cable everyone says to use. I downloaded things but I have no idea how to use or what they do. The extent of what I’ve done so far is I’ve heard some ems and noaa radio transmissions. That’s it. I enjoy your videos. Thanks in advance.
