Multiple Democratic lawmakers were arrested at an abortion rights protest in Washington, D.C. Tuesday.
The rally took place less than a month after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Protesters gathered at the capitol building before walking to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Representatives Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, Jackie Speier, Alma Adams and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez were among the 17 members of Congress taken into custody. A total of 35 people were detained.
The group knew they would likely be arrested but took part anyway in order to draw attention to their cause.
U.S. Capitol Police said on Twitter that the demonstrators were blocking traffic and that they were given the traditional three warnings before being arrested.
