Tyler Kolek Breaks Marquette's Assist Record

In their second matchup against DePaul University on February 21st, Tyler Kolek set the new program record for assists in one game with 18. The most impressive part about it, was that he got his last assist with 8:31 left in the second half.

In this video, we breakdown what reads went into Tyler having his historic night. Kolek is, no doubt, an phenomenal passer of the basketball, but he also has an extremely high iQ, and sees the game exceptionally well.

Nothing satisfies me more in basketball than the facilitator. Whether it's Stockton, Rondo or Djokovic. The unselfishness on a team is contagious and players will work harder on offense knowing that they'll be rewarded for that work. I’m disappointed you didn’t show what would have been assist 19 on the following possession when Tyler passed between his legs on a fast break to a trailing Kam Jones who just missed an open 3. The crowd was starting to explode with the shot in the air and everyone was shocked it didn’t go in.

I see a lot of young PG's at least in Europe struggle to make good reads out of PNR situations. They also struggle to make any kind of reads, attacking closeouts, one more pass, weakside skip etc..
