The first ever airliner I flew on was an MD88. Even though this is a different airline and version; this still hits home for me. The MD-80 was the workhorse of MANY airlines would wide. You could always tell when it was an 80 just by listening to the purring of the twin JT8D turbofans mounted on the fuselage. When I got word that one of the last 80s was departing from Pensacola; I immediately knew that I was going to go. I set me alarm for 3:50 to be at the airport for the 80's last 5:00 departure time. When I woke up, I do admit that I felt like just going back to sleep; however you can clearly see I made the right choice and went. I wish that the video and pictures I got came out better than they did. This is truly the end of an era as this means the last commercial MD80s in the entire U.S. are flown by Delta which even those are being phased out. The Maddog served with great dignity and purpose and although we most likely wont ever see anything like it again; It still lives on in our hearts.
