If you don’t get “the point” of hacking then you shouldn’t, the rest of us want to correct Sega on the game selections they gave us. And just to add, we didn’t get Lunar, Japan did, I think we should be able to correct that. And any other game you feel it should have, I’m not putting anything on any of them that I don’t ever play, that just clutters it up for no reason.

I got the SNES hacked. I felt the point of it was for nostalgia and honestly I just really like the design. I do realize there’s so many other better methods to play games. PC is probably ideal and thus why I also use it for this purpose. But I loved that the SNES mini could be ran on USB power so it added a quick solution for me. I’m sure a PI could also be a reasonable route, but not everyone has the know how to do so, even with step by step instructions, options like this may be too overwhelming for some people. But everyone’s different.

I own all the mini consoles except for the PlayStation. I prefer playing my retro games on the mini consoles. It feels like the official way to okay those games and I love the 1:1 replica controllers. It feels so nice playing these games with the original controllers and not an Xbox or Playstation controller

I wouldn't hack the minis, but, you could of course. My minis are all original, they are a collectors item. I can play other games on other systems.

The main reason to care about hacking the Mini 2 is game selection. Since it was very Japan-focused and apparently Sega didn't want to negotiate with certain original rights holders or something, the US and EU didn't get the English versions of the better CD games like Lunar and Popful Mail. If there was a hack of the Mini 1 that would add the sound mode selection of the Mini 2 in addition to adding games or full on update the Mini 1 firmware to _be_ Mini 2 just with Mini 1's games I would do that to my Mini 1 instead.

Long answer: Definitely yes, if you want to add your own games and also rip some of the other games not for other systems.

I am definitely in the "What is the point in hacking these systems?" category. Mine are all stock, I haven't opened the Genesis 2 yet but I played all the rest and the Turbografx has been the most fun for me so far. I get that people can do what they want with their stuff but why bother buying an official console/system when you can just do the same on some cheap Chinese thing? Or make your own Pi etc that can do all consoles or whatever. Seems really pointless to me. Only one I guess needed hacking was the PS1 mini cause it is so bad.

While i agree that modding can be pointless for many people, i also think it can be as useful for many others. as it has been with even newer and more official devices (such as PS2/PS3/PS4 etc etc) also some prefer having an OEM device like this to be their retro emulation machine under their TV instead of those chinese unstable ones.

and yes, we absolutely have many other ways to do the same things elsewhere but it doesn't make it less cool. sometimes we want Romhacks and stuff especially when it comes to NES/SNES and Genesis era.

i also think the plug and play solution for PSClassic makes it the best and easiest way to hack a mini console (as long as you use Autobleem and Autobleem's kernel not Bleemsync/Project Eris) you can also do it yourself with SanDisk drives, and its fairly easy to do, you do not need to buy these unsafe USB drives. PSClassic's kinda bigger hardware than most mini consoles, makes it a good emulation machine it can even run DS games with DraStic Emulator way better than most PCs.

do we need to absolutely hack a Genesis Mini or Mini 2? no but is it cool if we do? yes. absolutely it is.

one more thing to add is that, since these are mainly single board emulation PCs, the chances of breaking them through hacking, especially with PSClassic is around 0 to 1% and even if it breaks, it can be restored most likely.

i always had my opinion that these mini consoles are pointless and are only useful for novelty reasons, there are so many better options out there to play retro games and your channel proves that with your vids, these usb sticks are hilarious tho, so many of those things LOL

My snes mini is fully modded and that possibility to hack it, was the reason to buy for me. I'm from germany and all the stock roms are in english, so i modded the hell out of this thing to be able to play gameboy, more snes, some with fantranslations like Seiken Densetsu 3 and some GBA games.

The only reason I would possibly buy one of these mini systems is because of it's controllers and the fact it's from original company because It's authentic. Maybe someday I agree and wouldn't mod the console too much maybe add few games. I can emulate on so many devices with better specs so it's pointless. I Recently snagged a copy of retail retroarch on my xbox one and that's my go to now because it's always accessible and the gameplay recording is top notch.

This is why I love the ATGames 2018 genesis. yea the emulation isnt 100% but you can softmod and play the original cartriages!

Of course I modded my SNES classic. It's nice to play some of the best 90s arcade classics like Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and Ultimate 3, CPS or Neo Geo games with the great SNES controller!

GREAT VIDEO! I've got a hacked Playstation Classic, not tried a true blue stick on it. I also have an old "horizontal" PC (as opposed to tower) which I may turn into a games machine. Yes bigger than a pie but has the virtue of built-in everything ready to go..
