Alex Vittum, builder and co-inventor of the Big Wheel with Daniel Schmidt and Paul Dresher, demonstrates the Big Wheel, an invention that has a ring of a dozen custom-designed wood blocks arrayed around the perimeter of an approximately 3 foot diameter circle. Balls of various materials (wooden, golf and ping pong balls) can be inserted into the interior of the Big Wheel and when the wheel is spun, the balls more or less randomly strike, play and bounce off of the wood blocks. This invention is part of the hand's-on invented instrument installation work The Sound Maze.
