Glittering magic potion bottles are a fun DIY project for Halloween that are super popular on TikTok and YouTube right now. You fill a glass vial with rubbing alcohol or water and glycerin, add in some food coloring and mica powder, give it a shake, and a color changing swirling storm appears inside. The problem is that this effect only lasts for a few seconds and we want the magic in our witch's potions to last forever.

Grandin Road, Home Depot, and Target all sell animated crystal balls that have an automatic swirling motion, so we took our inspiration from these. The effect is surprisingly easy to create, and in this video we will teach you how to make your own swirling potion bottles.

These DIY potion bottles are perfect addition to your 2022 Halloween decorations! They'd fit in wonderfully with a Happy Potter, Hocus Pocus, or Witchy theme. It would even be cool for a mad scientist or wizard.

I did a edible version of this for my kids birthday party. You get your hands on some butterfly pea flower tea and edible luster dust. I steeped the tea to make a beautiful blue color. I then made vials with instant lemonade powder with a little bit of luster dust mixed in (I called it fairy powder). The kids put the blue liquid in their flasks, and then added the lemonade powder and stirred. The deep blue turns purple from the lemonade acidity and also turns swirly from the luster dust. The end result was a basic lemonade for the kids to drink that just looked magical. I added some Hibiscus flavoring to add some exoticness to the flavor and another step, but you could end it there.

I had a fantasy video game themed birthday party this past summer and I had drinkable glitter potions! I used edible glitter from Brew Glitter and they were great! A little goes a long way. Friend of mine is great at making drinks and he used a mix of blue and red Brew Glitter to make a concoction he dubbed "Unicorn Tears".

This is a really neat way to have a magical glitter potion for a prop! Thanks for sharing this!

You could add some led lights and a magnetic switch to the base unit and if you use tissue paper as a diffuser you can get rid of the food coloring. You can also use one of those remote control led lights that change color, really dress it up.

I am currently making this project and let youuuu
Unless your are using bigger wires, you don’t need the wire connectors (use electrical tape). You will also need to remove some of the sheathing from the wires. Love this project but def don’t need the ports.😅 and use the tweezer tools to help with removing the sheathing. 👍🏼

2 things … I make potion cocktails for Halloween parties. Edible dust in the drink and a small piece of dry ice to keep it bubbling!
Second, I made a storm bottle but it’s not great so please make that!!! I used a cork with attached fairy lights and poly fil I had colored with grey streaks. It’s a storm cloud in a bottle. I wish the lights would flicker though

Love this one! I have a bunch of empty spell books that just sit there. I bet I can make a setup that's stacked with several "potions"! Thank you for another great video!

Awesome. The power of magnets!

Also there is apparently mica powder that makes it change color when agitated.

You guys never fail to impress me. This is so wicked easy. I can’t believe this, I have one similar that I bought yrs ago, and it stopped working a month after I bought it. But now, thanks to ya’ll, I can fix it and amaze my friends with it.

I was literally making potions like this yesterday. I have everything except the motors. So happy my potions will be spinning on their own as fast as amazon can ship them.

Thank you for this vid, i cant TELL you how many times ive seen D&D TikTok or fantasy vids where people make these and refuse to list ingredients or process. Now i can finally make something ive had on my mind for years! THANK YOU <3

This is excellent, but i would advise putting a second magnet on the other side of the quarter (flipped to present an opposite polarity to the first magnet) so as to balance out the quarter. Otherwise you have an unbalanced load which will make the motor spindle/bearings wear unevenly over time. It'll make it much less noisy if it's well balanced as well!
