That famous director David Cronenberg turned down the opportunity to direct the show because of one reason? The anthology series True Detective has had mixed fortunes since it first aired to critical acclaim in 2014. The first season of the show starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and was adored by audiences and critics alike. However, following the departure of the director Cary Joji Fukunaga after Season One, a search began to find a director willing to helm the second season of the show. Creator Nic Pizzolatto searched far and wide for an acclaimed replacement for Fukunaga, and one of the big-name directors he approached was none other than horror legend David Cronenberg. Unfortunately for HBO and Pizzolatto, Cronenberg rejected their offer as he didn’t think much of the script presented to him.

Its because season 1 of TD is probably one of the most perfect piece of motion picture to be ever created.
A very rare event when all the aspects of filmmaking didnt had a single flaw in it.
I have seen it almost 6-7 times till now and still feels fresh.

I think true detective s2 is better than most of series out there but it was not upto s1 standards!

Season 2 is not bad, and had it had no affiliation would have been seen as very good. Unfortunately being compared to season 1 meant it was essentially guaranteed to be seen as a disappointment, since the first season is on the short list for the best season of any show ever. I would say its up there with season 8 of game of thrones, season one of the rings of power, season 1 of Eternals, and of course season 3 of sex and the city

I don’t care what anyone says. I really liked season two. Sure it never could be as good as one. And season three is better as well. Season two had the best ending. I believe the final two episodes of two made up for all the shot comings critics and fans pointed out.

No explanation necessary. D Kro is a director of a past time that wouldn’t have done what HBO envisioned. In hindsight, season 2 may have been all the better if he made it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Cant blame him, season 2 was kinda of a mess, too many character and plot lines, with neither going nowhere and to be honest feels like they were trying to be The Wire

The original writer from this show left because he sucks the first season sucked to me I don't care if people like it I like season 4 I think it's better I think it's more interesting I think the characters are more compelling I think the story is more interesting and guys like me are actually watching it when I didn't watch any of the first three seasons why is that

My favourite season so far has been Season 2. Both critics and public loved it here in the UK.
