Thanks for this very helpful video. I have a question... When i follow the steps provided, for some reason, the visual file is creating its own dataset file when published instead of a direct link to the dataset file. Can you help me to understand what I did wrong? I wish to have the automated refresh of the dataset immediately apply to the visual report.

I've found the easiest way to separate the report from the dataset is to open the report in power bi web and download a copy without the dataset (as linked online) then rename the file before opening in power BI and publishing it.

Thanks for the informative session. Could you also let me know if i use that dataset in excel, it become slow. Can u pls suggest me the ways to overcome this performance issue while dataset is connected to excel? Thanks in advance

Thank you for the video. I would like to get your input. I have a large dataset that consist of all clients data. I know that I can create a report and use filter to filter just for a specific client and publish it then give viewer permission so that the client will view only their own data. If the client would like to have access to their own data, how do you share the dataset through PBI web? I noticed that even if I filter out the specific client in the report/visualization, the dataset will still contain all clients data. Thanks again.

I have a question . when we use dataset to create visualize and save it as analytics and publish . how can we set the security level ? as the security level only can set on the dataset not the analytics.

Thanks! I want to share with you one problem with splitting report and dataset. If we publish the dataset in one workspace and the report in another workspace, the users need to be at least contributor at both workspaces to download reports created by using the dataset.

I reported this issue and they actualized the list of limitations and proposed an idea to solve it. This is a limitation and it is quite confusing since, if you give build access to users to the dataset, then, they can create, publish, view and edit reports with this dataset, but they can't download it.

Please, would you vote for the idea to solve this problem?
