Don't write your next song yourself.

Make a list of all the greatest hits that you know, read up on them and you will be intrigued that the singers weren't always the (only) songwriters. In the music business, it is actually considered very professional to have a team of songwriters on a song.

It's one of the reasons that you almost always love Davido's songs whether you like his voice or not. 'Gobe' was originally written and performed by producer and vocalist, Password before Davido bought it.... Granted, a lot of your A-List artists in Nigeria are not very open about their songwriters but it's a thing of pride.

As an independent artist, consider collaborating with fellow indie artist and songwriters. Exchange ideas, share promotion responsibilities and revenues. It's one of the fastest ways to rise to the top.
