So glad we are still talking about him and listening to his music all these long decades later.
We got that Hendrix was 'something else', back in the day. Hindsight says he was even greater than we knew. He died too young but his music will live on until "the end of time".

Aside from the bombs dropping / exploding, the machine gun fire, he also adds the horror of war through the screams of pain, fear, heartbreak as innocent lives see their homes and loves ones destroyed. Back then, for a "public" black man to denounce the war would've been inconceivable, but he was able to make a strong anti-war statement...without saying a word. His technique is amazing and revolutionary but to use onomatopoeia like this (something that was typically reserved to classical composers, like Berlioz and others) is the sign of utter greatness. Thanks for reacting to this work of art!

As a Canadian it amazes me that more people don't appreciate the fact that this iepitomizes what America is suppose to be about ...freedom to express ones self and no one did it better here than the G.O.A.T.

Woodstock is full of epic performances, this being one of the top performances. What you heard at the very end were the first notes of Purple Haze. I have a tough time just listening to the SSB without it. Interesting point of note, the popularity of Hendrix at that time was off the charts. He was actually the headliner of the whole concert. Great stuff.

I saw Jimi Hendrix do this song on April 11, 1969 at Dorton Arena, Raleigh, North Carolina when Jimi performed with Fat Mattress. It was near the beginning of a new US tour after introducing the Star Spangled Banner on a recently completed European tour. No one had heard the song before and it was stunning. I was 16, a junior in high school at the time. That concert cemented my lifelong love for metal and rock and is at the top of my concert experiences along with early Led Zeppelin the following year (1970). BTW, ticket prices for that concert were $6, $5, $4 and $3.

My Mom grew up in the Great Depression era. My Dad was in the Air Force in WWII. I played this video for her, as I had already experienced it. She listened intently. When he was wrapping it up, I looked over at her. Tears streaming down her face. I asked her why she was crying…. She just said, “Beautiful”.

I love Jeff Beck, SRV, and others, but listening to things like this puts an exclamation point on the fact that he was the best ever. All the greats recognized his greatness. RESPECT!

It's over 30 years since I first heard Jimi, and to this day I am still in total awe of the man's otherworldly musical brilliance, individuality and vision. Favourite musician of all time, no contest. What a tragic loss. 💙💚🧡✌️✌️✌️🧡💚💙.
