Harry Nilsson was something of a tragic genius. Horrible childhood, lifelong addictions, and an early death. But he was an amazing musical talent while it lasted.

This song was written by Peter Ham from Badfinger and then Nilsson covered and made it his own. my favorite version by far.

When Paul McCartney was asked to name his favorite American artist at an Apple Corps event, he answered "Nilsson".
When John Lennon was asked the same question at the event, he also replied "Nilsson". Now THAT'S PRAISE!
(At least in my book!)👍🎵🎹

Mariah Carey covered this song in 1994 with great success, Nilsson released this in 1972 when I was 9 and I loved Nilsson's vocals prowess on this song ever since .He won a Grammy for this, best pop male vocal

When this song came on the radio, everyone turned the volume up very loud to completely immerse themselves in its pain.

This is the best version of this song. It has depth and pain in it that the version by Mariah Carey does not have.

For me, this is far and away Harry's best song ever---and the best power ballad of the '70s.

Harry Nilsson burnt the candle at both ends but what a wondrous magnificent light it gave out while he was with us!

I hope you might try ‘Everybody’s Talkin’’ from the soundtrack of Midnight Cowboy. A great song for a really great film 😉

The late Harry Nilsson was so talented. The animated film "The Point" (1971) was terrific. Gone much too soon. I've always loved this song - thanks for playing it & your comments.

Many years ago I was faced with the decision to allow my young children to reside with my ex. He offered a stability I could not at the time. Turning and walking away from them at the airport gate - a gut-wrenching memory I will always carry with me. I am so humbled to have since reunited with all of my adult children. This song makes me cry.

The writers of this song, Pete Ham and Tommy Evens, were part of a band named Badfinger. Badfinger were signed by The Beatles to their record label Apple. Badfinger had a tragic story. Pete and Tommy ended up killing themselves. Mike Gibbins, their drummer, died of natural causes. Only one member, Joey Mullins, remains alive. They were a great band with several hits. Check then out.

I'm sitting here with here with tears streaming down my face and I've only heard the song probably hundreds of times. 😭 But it makes me cry every time. One of the most beautiful yet saddest love songs of all time. Thank you for covering it. 😢❤️

Harry was part of the LA group of musicians in the 70's. That group included George Harrison, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, The Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Warren Zevon, Joanie Mitchell and many more.

All the great songs from the 60's through the 80's sound familiar because they've all been covered, sampled, and/or commercialized.

Man! This one takes me right back to 7th-8th grade, trying to imagine the world was falling in on me because my girlfriend ignored me at school and everything felt more intense than in any other time of life. : ] My generation was seriously fortunate to grow up in the golden age of recorded music. The 60s and 70s were a mighty time for popular music, indeed.
