Despite what we may think, many people didn’t believe Jesus’s ministry was all that impressive. In fact, they questioned whether or not God’s kingdom was really advancing through him. In response, Jesus told a parable about a mustard seed. Even though it’s incredibly small, its capacity for growth is massive. Jesus challenged his audience to recognize that even though things may not be unfolding the way we think, that doesn’t mean God isn’t at work. Quite the opposite. And what may appear to be small and seemingly insignificant may be germinating into something substantial.

This was just what I needed to hear today. God has asked me to go into full time ministry. I know that God can and will use me. I had asked God to give me the nations. I told Him wherever He asks me to go or whatever He asks me to do, or whomever He asks me to talk to I will. When God asked me to go into full time ministry, I didn't really know what that meant or even what it looked like. However I decided to not try to see the whole picture, just to take the steps that He asks me to take when He asks me to take them. He has taught me that delayed obedience is disobedience. Fear began to prick me as we are in a difficult financial situation. God reminded me that He cleared our debt and that every month we are able to pay all of our bills. Although we don't have extra, when He asks us to give or do something The funds are always there. God is always faithful. and if He wants to use me to further His kingdom, no matter how small I believe my part to be, then who am I to question Him. I want to be used like this mustard seed and explode across the nation. I want God to use me to to spread His Gospel message. Thank you for your obedience.

I believe this is true meaning of this parable. Jesus said that the Kingdom of God is inside of us. This mustard seed is inside of us. The only question is to awaking this seed. ”Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Ephesians 5:14

Good analysis but no mention of the context of Pharisee rejecting their Messiah. And Israel then not understanding prophecy of two comings; 1st to save by paying the penalty of sin, the 2nd to judge and rule on earth.

The "tree" now exists almost fully today - Christianity (saved followers) is known throughout the world so much now that unbelievers (birds) benefit from it's size and branches. Yet Christ future 2nd return will fulfill the harvest context of Mat 13:30.
Thanks for the video discussion!

Mustard seeds teach us that the word of God has four different versions, even for something as simple as mustard seeds. Look it up.

Haha. I've got really really tiny hands. Enjoyed that.

Is there any significance in that bit about the birds that perch on its branches? I wonder

Question what type of mustard seed is this? It look significantly smaller than a standard one I'd buy in a spice bottle.

Is there a seed smaller than the mustard seed that when grown is bigger than the mustard tree that can span up to 20-25ft? The answer is no. So the mustard seed is the smallest seed on earth that when sown in the earth produces the largest herb that produces great branches that the birds can nest in. It’s not just the smallest seed THEY planted back in the day, but, it’s the smallest seed that meets all the other requirements stated in the text that applies TODAY.

Christ didn’t make an absolute statement about the size of the mustard seed being the absolute smallest; but it came with qualifications of the smallest that:
1. Has to be sown in the earth.
2. Must become greater than all the herbs.
3. Must shoot out straight branches.
4. Birds must be able to nest in it.

“It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭4:31-32‬ ‭

Orchid seeds are not sown in the earth but in water and then planted in the earth. Orchid seed is not sown in earth.

Wolffia or wormwood grows on top of water and is not sown in the earth or dry land.

Poppy seeds are sown in the earth but when grown are not greater than all herbs, do not have great branches, and cannot hold birds or nests. This likewise goes for every other seed that is smaller than the mustard seed that is sown in the earth.

So this passage is literal, and scientific, whatever that means, and is in a parable, with a physical and spiritual context, and is not exaggerated hyperbole.

Christ’s words are true...literally! Read His word with reverence humility and you will have eyes to see and ears to hear. Read it with the high minded experts and you will not see...that’s what parables are for.

Parable of the Mustard Seed

Nolan’s view or interpretation/application is off. By using this fake tree to represent the kingdom of heaven, Christ is telling the listener/reader that something is off, not right with this fake tree, a large bush imitating a tree just like a worthless tare mimics valuable wheat. Otherwise, He would have used something more majestic to represent His kingdom like a strong, towering cedar of Lebanon. (Ezekiel 7:22-24, 31:1-9) This fake tree which is actually a very large bush tells the end-times story of the great apostasy (2 Thessalonians 1-11, 1 Timothy 4). Many who say "Lord, Lord, " who make up this tree, who say they belong to Him, in the kingdom of heaven are fake as well. They are the Bible's wayward, accursed children (2 Peter 2:14). These are the 5 foolish virgins, who believed they were going to heaven, even though, they did not belong to the Lord but to Satan, as they had lost their salvation. All the parables are harmonious, supporting each other. Use this fact to help you, when interpreting the parables. For example, the birds in this parable are the same evil birds, who take out, who was sown in one's heart--Christ in the Parable of the Sower, in the Seeds by the Wayside. The evil birds nesting/resting in this false tree dovetails in as to who the tree is made up of and to whom it belongs--Satan. The pagan, evil birds raise their pagan, evil children in this tree (Hosea 5:7). Thus, this fake tree represents the prophesied great apostasy that is occurring today when hell-bound tares are supplanting righteous wheat (Matthew 13:24-30, 13:36-43), spiritually murdering them, their neighbors. (Isaiah 1:21, Jeremiah 4:31, Acts 7:52, 1 Timothy 1:8-10) This supplanting has been picking up steam in this last generation (Parable of the Fig Tree) of roughly the last 70 to 80 years (Psalm 90:10), of which the Catholic Church commits a great quantity of lost souls to this fake tree, of between 1 billion to 1.5 billion per generation. The rest of “Christendom” commits the rest. The supplanting is so great that it forms an ungodly, foolish nation (Deuteronomy 32:21, Romans 10:19, Psalm 43:1, Isaiah 10:6). These murderers will have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)

The smallest of seeds is synonymous to the very small beginning of the mystery of lawlessness, comprising of a small lie, false doctrine. (2 Thessalonians 2:7) Back in Paul's day when some within the church told other church members of Thessalonica, that the pretribulation rapture had already occurred and that they had missed it and were now in the 7-year tribulation. Of course, this was a lie which is a part of the beginning of the mystery of lawlessness. A small, false seed planted that has overtaken most, if not all of today's “Christian” churches and their members, whereby, the strong man has been bound and their congregations have been slain in silence by a nod of affirmation. (Matthew 12:29, Mark 3:27), having been taken captive by Satan to do his will. (2 Timothy 2:26) Soon, His accursed children (2 Peter 2:14), His rejected silver (Jeremiah 6:30) will be laid low and the lowly exalted, those of little strength. (Revelation 3:8) Meanwhile, the false tree, representing the wicked, heretical, evil, apostate, traitorous tares, standing tall, prospering in great power like a native green tree (Psalm 37:35), a foolish, ungodly nation (Deuteronomy 32:21, Romans 10:19, Psalm 43:1, Isaiah 10:6).

I hope this helps those who still seek the truth.

I do not judge nor condemn eternally, you or anyone else. I merely declare the truth and expose the secret, hidden heretics (2 Peter 2:1, Ephesians 5:11), in the hope these lost souls will return to the Lord. One's own words will either justify or condemn them on that day (Matthew 12:37). For, Christ will not come to judge the wicked (those who transgress His word), as the words He has spoken already will judge them on that day. (John 12:47-48) Blessed is those whom He forgives their transgressions (Psalm 32:1), those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

I warn out of love, while contending for the faith (Jude 1:3), to those on the broad road leading to hell (Matthew 7:13-14, Luke 13:22-29). Stop following these charlatans who tell lies against the Lord (Psalm 58:1-3) and justify the wicked which are abominations to the Lord (Proverbs 17:15). Return to the Lord (Revelation 3:18-20); Then, follow the Lord, having the Lord maintain your lot (Psalm 16:5). Then, guard the door to your mouth (Psalm 141:3, Micah 7:5) lest you be found to be a liar (Pro 30:5-6), as liars are cut off in the night and being estranged from the womb will not be raptured (Psalm 58:1-3), nor enter into heaven. (Matthew 25:1-13)

I am a watchman on the wall for my Lord Jesus.
