When negotiating a job offer, you may not get the salary you hoped for, but there are many other things that you can get written into your employment contract to make up for the difference.

We talk about key things to get reimbursed, stipends, equity, profit sharing, your workspace, your schedule, and more.

Here is an article about employee equity to get a bit more familiar:

I negotiated for all of the above and I was told that I was overplaying my hand and the offer was withdrawn. I really don't understand it but, I think its a red flag if an employer withdraws an offer because a person negotiated.

I like your videos because its straight forward in a few minutes unlike other videos who spent time telling stories before they get to the point.

Madeline, thank you for sharing your valuable expertise and tips! I have been watching your videos for the past month or so and have used your advice for multiple job interviews. I'm happy to share that I have accepted a job offer at an amazing organization! Thank you for all you do. :)

Some good tips here.

3 month’s severance is not enough. Most companies will give you 2 or 3 or even 6 if they are a big company - if they need to lay you off. If you got the guts to ask for this, ask for a year.

I also dont agree with the review period. You’ll never get what you want at the end of the review period. You’ll get an “yeah, you’re doing great. We love your work. We just want to make sure you can demonstrate this consistently. We can revisit at your 1 year”. Then you just get a cola. You’ll never have more leverage then when you have an offer. If you can’t get what you want out of the offer, don’t count on getting it in 6 months.

Here's a big one that is easy... Ask for your benefits to begin immediately and not after the 3 months probation, and ask that they pay for the benefits, such as healthcare benefits.

This is super helpful! Would love a video about stock options, what to do when your company offers their own stock at a discount, and how/if I should have those in my company's 401k.

Thank you for this, it's so insightful especially for a fresh grad like me - I didn't even know I could negotiate for some of these things!

Because of COVID lockdown I'll be working online for the foreseeable future so I feel like maybe it's not appropriate to negotiate things like office space, transportation/relocation reimbursements etc. but would you say it's still possible to do this after accepting a job offer when circumstances change?

Hey Madeline, I’ve been binge watching your videos now even when I don’t have any interviews to attend. They are so informational and helpful.

Completely off topic, I really love your dressing style. Where do you shop mostly?

Great information Madeline. How would I negotiate for cell phone usage/home computer usage/asking that they provide a stand-up desk since its a remote role? Literally, am I putting this in email? Or asking when they give me an offer? Also, I'd love to hear any videos you have or will do about stock options! Thank you!! Really appreciate your content. You are a rockstar!!

This is very helpful. Thank you.
I had the bitter experience!!!
During salary negotion, I have observed recently some consultancies, They try to exploit during the salary negotiation Interview knowing that you are foreigner and are too humble .They behave as if you are doing wrong by negotiating the salary.whenever we ask some thing politely also, They try to say that "usually in Germany it is not like this or like this only".. just try to override. Indirectly they point that we dont know any thing about the Job market. They think that we are soft spoken and we will accept and work thinking that we are coming from poor country. I get angry sometimes when someone does like this but i control myself. At the same time, being a such high experienced i feel myself i should not be exploited by some one. . so what is your suggestion here and how do you react

Hi Madeline! Thank you for all of your guidance in helping me land my dream job just last week. One question I have for you is how to approach a scenario where the job title you are offered is different than what you interviewed for? I am totally content with the new title and the salary - and I trust their judgement on the best fit for role based on my skills and experience after a series of 5 interviews. I just want make sure we are all clear about responsibilities in the official contract. Thanks for your help.
