Make better and easier decisions at the board
8 principles to help you become a better chess player:
1) Centralize! The centre is where the action takes place and the player who controls the centre usually have the advantage - so always fight (hard!) for the centre!
2) Develop! Get your pieces out so they can fight (for the centre). You don't want to be overrun with your pieces on the back rank
3) King Safety! If the king dies, you lose! So the security of the king is a ruling principle that usually trump other principles!
4) Attack Weaknesses! You want to attack your opponent where he/she is weakest - so look for the weak spot and go for it
5) See the threat! - your opponent is also trying to attack you! So take care and defend your pieces and the king. Losing material will lead to beeing outnumbered.
6) Pawn Structure! The pawn structure is important so don't take on weaknesses unless you have to
7) Dynamic or Static! This feature of the position decides what other principles are most important. In dynamic positions the rules change and pawn structure and material becomes less important and attacking and activity rules the day. In Static positions the positional features are more important.
8) Go for activity! The bold and aggressive generally get's more points in chess - so when in doubt... stay active!
